Its planting time again!

It is another season! We have been going through hard times of drought and it has not been easy. Many people have lost their animals and have no food, we are thankful because in Western Kenya we have received some rain and this has made a very big difference. This means people can at least have water since most of the wells and streams had dried up and they can grow vegetables.

The good news is that people can now prepare their farms and plant maize and beans and after a few months they will have food. The last harvest was great and the beneficiaries of this program had enough food throughout the year. About 30 households received fertilizer both DAP for planting and CAN for top dressing. More than 160 people benefitted indirectly from this program and had enough food for their children.

We are glad that we are able to provide fertilizer and maize seeds to 30 this year and we are looking forward to a great harvest again this year. All farm inputs have already been provided and planting is in the progress. We are not only providing farm inputs but we are also educating all the beneficiaries on how to become self-reliant. We are putting many measures in place to make sure that there is enough food in the future without our input.

We are looking forward to reaching out to 400 widows in the next few years and not only giving out farm inputs but equipping them with knowledge and reducing dependency in the community.

Once again thank you for your support and your commitment, without you we wouldn't be doing what we are doing and these families would have died from hunger. You are leaving a mark on these people's hearts that will never be forgotten. Your names will always be mentioned in their testimonies everywhere. Thank you

Agricultural inputs making a difference

Widows who received inputs give back to the home

Strengthening and transforming families has become one of the most successful programs at Tumaini. Everything done in this program is aimed to provide for the children at risk of being separated from their parents ( due to low condition of the families, poverty, families with numerous members, mono-parental families, risk of abuse and neglect, risk of not having conditions for healthy development.

The provision of the agricultural inputs to these families has played a big role in strengthening the families. As we all are aware that food is very vital to every human being and it is one the main causes that contributes to the children being separated from their families and children not staying in school.

To prevent this situation Tumaini has for the last two years provided agricultural inputs to widows and vulnerable families which has changed their lives in a positive way. For the last three months many people in our community have been harvesting and we have seen our beneficiaries smile.

They had good harvests which will enable them have enough food for the rest of the dry season next year 2023. Thirty families received fertilizer both for planting and top dressing. They also received seeds depending on the acreage of land. The least acreage is half an acre.

This program directly benefitted 30 families and 180 people benefitted indirectly from the program. These families have food to get them to the next harvest, their children are healthy and remain in school.

Our target is to reach out to 400 vulnerable families in the next three years and it is in this regard that we are requesting you to consider giving towards this program and or share with your friends about this cause. We can never do it alone but together we can make a difference.

We are strongly advocating on the preventive measures to help us carb the problems that are contributing to the vicious poverty circle. Join us to make this happen.

THE HARVEST IS ALMOST DUE

The strengthening families program is doing very well. The widows received their fertilizer in April although the rains delayed. Our rain season is in April, but this year the rains started later in April. The planting was done but it was different from other years. Every person planted at her own chosen timing because the rains were not consistent. Therefore the maturity of the crops is different but they have done very well. The harvest will not be at the same time as it has always been.

They received the fertilizer according to the number of acreages and most of the women have done a good job. They cultivated their crops very well and they top dressed with CAN. We perceive a good harvest despite the challenges.

This program has been successful because all the fatherless children in different families can have food on their tables. We are not helping one individual child but we are helping the entire family. The widows are very happy and their testimonies are very encouraging. Their children do not work on farms for food, they go to school every day.

This would not have been so without your support. Your commitment, prayers, and support have changed the lives of widows and their children. These are women who have no jobs, they have no education and their breadwinners have gone. Some of them have been denied access to so many things since their husbands who would have defended them are no more. You have given them hope, they have realized that someone from far, can remember a widow and her children.

It is my prayer that you will continue to share this cause with friends and families. We will appreciate if we will have more monthly supporters, $10 put together makes a big difference. Nothing is small to accomplish this mission. Together we can change the world.
