Project Report | Dec 26, 2016
Pride or Opportunity?

By F Beatrice Vanaja | Chief Adminstrative Officer

Dear Donors,

You will be happy to know that two important programmes were organised during this quarter for the special school children. On 21.10.16, a programme on awareness on child sexual abuse was conducted in Arangoor and Alamarathupatti to our special schools' children together witht the government school children . The programme was a grand success and the children were much benefitted by the program.

On 15th and 16th December, 2016 Nila palli was organised by New Life's Special Schools in Musiri Town Panchayath. The program is conducted each year to emphasise the importance of education to the villages where child labourers are dominant. Cultural programmes were conducted to talk about the importance of education. The function was presided over by the Secretary of New Life and the Project Director, CHEERS, Trichirappalli was the Chief Guest. The Project Director explained about the scheme of CHEERS and about the special school for child labourers. The Secretary said that the functioning of the special School is not a pride but is an opportunity available to the children. It will be a pride, if the villagers can say that there was a Special School once in their village. The villagers accepted and assured that they will strive towards a child labour free village.

During the last three months (Sep-Nov) we received donations to a tune of $1464.12. The balance amount kept aside for giving the education support in the first quarter of 2017 is $2190.87 and it will support 14 children. Case studies of children who are to be supported newly is collected. A field visit should be made to analyse their current situation and those who are eligible will be selected for support.

Anand (name changed) is studying in 10th standard now. He is preparing well for his final exams as this result and the marks he scores will determine his future and pave the way for his career. Anand narrates his story; "I have 9 siblings. My father and mother fights frequently. Due to poverty and want of money, I had to rear sheep without studying. The special school teacher approached my parents, convinced them to admit me in the school. My parents are daily wage earners. With the little income they bring it is hard to feed all the 12 of us. At times I manage with the mid day meal I get at school. I was given education support by New Life and many thanks to the donors for helping me through the organisation. I want to become a teacher like my teachers who made me continue my studies and motivate children like me."

Many child labourer children like Anand can pursue their dreams because of the education support provided by New Life with the generous donations from you dear donors. Kindly continue to support this project to make the dreams of poor, deprived, deserving children, a reality. Also spread words to your friends and relatives who would love to support these lovely children.

Thanking you and Regards
