Empowering 50 HIV+ kids in India through education

This quarter was a treasure of fun, entertainment and seeking knowledge through various informal activities.  And also outcome/ results of the annual hard work and overall invested on their academics. It’s a starting of new chapter of career standing on their edge of transformation and hoping for the best to happen in the future after passing 10^th and 12^th examinations with satisfactory percentages. Our 3 girls Sapna, Komal and Komal passed their 12^th examination and Komal , Poornima , Moni, Anjali , Shilpa, Karan , Ashish , Mayur passed their 10^th board with satisfied marks.

Educational Options worked for our children this year were customized according to the aptitude and likings of the child. Skill development programs is what we emphasize as this helps the children to procure job immediately on successful completion of the course

Education Avenues opened for our children:

Don Bosco Technical Institute: A program catering to the inherent technical skill. The children that have been send for these program are the once who may not be academically very sound but have an approach of solving every problem through technology. The program is followed by placing the children in job after 6 months.

Mahindra Pride Institute: An institute which has number many programs listed with them has come to provide our children with vocational courses like Retail Management, Hotel Management etc. Sapna who always wanted to achieve something in the culinary field has been enrolled for the hotel management program which will be followed by a job in hospitality sector.

Vigyan Ashram: There no better learning then practically doing the things you want learn. With this aim Vigyan Ashram has been established. They have designed a program which helps the children learn from the surroundings. During this program the children are exposed to learn and earn scheme. This programs bring an overall development of each child.

MCVC (Minimum Competency Vocational Courses): Government recognized vocational program which have ample of options has been selected for few of our competent children. Sushma, Anjali and Sangram have been admitted in MCVC curriculum. All these children have a penchant for pursuing a career in electronics. They are have also completed a short course from Kohinoor Technical Institute. It was based on the successful completion of this program that we have decided them to enroll for higher electronics program.   

 Other activities of the children at Manavya

 Science make life easy its play very important role in defense sector. Our all children visited to 5^th Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan & Expo. On 11 & 12 may 2017 at Ferguson college ground. Many types of machines, gun, bomb, using by Navy, army & air force saw at expo. And also demonstration given by the scientist. The children saw the confluence of Science and Traditional/Modern weapons used in the battlefield.

 10^th and 12^th performers were rewarded for their outstanding performance by renowned pharmaceutical company Cipla. This happen be to a motivational factor for the next batch of children as they have decided to award our children every year.

Educational Achievement:

The year began on a strong note where we had almost 11 children appearing for 10^th examination.  Our President Dr. Arundhati Sardesai believes that education is the most powerful weapon to change your world, hence she emphasizes on the importance of studies and is prompt in even taking the studies of the children. Manavya children are taught that examination are a self-assessment procedure which prepare you for a better tomorrow, hence our children rather than being pressured with it enjoy the self-explorative procedure.

Karan having being ill for a very long time was keen to appear for his 10^th examination. He was leg with severe infection. Going against all odds where he was unable to walk went for the examination. Looking at his determination even Manavya family was encouraged and each one in some or the other way supported Karan.

Two of our brilliants star out casted all the boundaries by participating in a Science exhibition and together invented an automatic water supply system.

Medical Success Stories:

At a given point of time for any institute the most important task is to address and overcome medical challenges. We have being through no different situation, when 8 of our boys and girls had to undergo ear operation at a stretch. Our medico staff has played a very important role in making this happen. One of the girl is also being administered with earing machine as a result of this she has now appeared for 11^th exams. This quarter the medico team were on their feet to get all the regular test which were necessary to understand the current health situation of the children and if any amendments to be made examination to be done.

Nutritional revolutionary:

We make a constant effort to renew the dietary components especially during these the hot summers where are children are fussy about food we have to experiment with the food habits. Again with the type of medication the children are administered always has its side effects, hence it becomes important for us to have a menu chart which is apt with the weather.

Last month after the regular test where conducted for the children, we identified that the hemoglobin of many children had gone down. The main reason known for this is the growing age and changing metabolism with the age. But we do not stop here, after acknowledging problem we have started giving a health tonic which is especially applicable for HIV children and helps in restoring the hemoglobin as well as immunity of the child. 

Other Activities:

Woman Day was celebrated by Manavya with a message to convey, this message was for girls as well as boys. Woman a symbol of love, beauty, respect and strength was conveyed through this program.  The message for girls at Manavya was that in any given situation a woman has the ability to stand for herself and create a niche. The boy were also imperative participants in the program where they were taught to how prominence of woman in the society and to integrate in respecting and protecting a woman.

One of our esteem partner had a wonderful and refreshing activity for the children in the month of January. The volunteers organized a pleasurable as well as an informative program which included pot painting, video presentation of Solar System etc.

Children were encouraged to opt for to creative skill and products produced by them will be exhibited during the exhibition to be held throughout the year. This also is a earning scheme which is pivotal for the children to start earning for themselves.

Summer vacation is fun filled time for Manavya children. They are ample of time to sleep, play and do activities which they are not able to do otherwise. Manavya organizes a trip for these children every year. This year it was a fun filled trip along with heritage walk for the kids. They enjoyed their time at Wai where they were taken around the city.
