Project Report | Jun 9, 2024
Keepin' on, keepin' on!

By Mira Talbott Pope | Directora, Project Leader

Creando Mi Futuro is still on a learning curve in complying with the various requisites in Guatemala for being a registered entity - type of reports to a legal accountant registered with the tax board, reports of meetings with required signatures - and so forth.  But at this point we seem to be on top of it.  The project itself continues well; electing a new Junta Directiva (parent board) for 2024 who took their posts in March.

At least 24 or our current 27 parents are participating in the garden, the weavers' and beaders' groups, homework club, the classroom-cleaning hours on Friday before class, and the new group for producing our small meal in class each Saturday.   The kids are now learning English during the class, thanks to a volunteer from the U.S., and the parents have this opportunity during their artisans group as well.  We are also currently receiving enough donations to continue to function well, although we would like to recuperate our former number of 28 sponsors so that we can add more families until we are at capacity (33) once again.

The director recently spent 3 weeks in Calfiornia, attending benefit events to sell some of the projects of the mothers and youth and returned with a donation of $1700 to the group   The first attached photo shows some of our group of weavers, who regularly make belts that they sell on their own, but also made an adaptation for the likes of women in the U.S., which were sold at these benefit events.  The second photo shows members of our new Junta Directiva setting out the order for the months' food distribution (please note the two sleeping babies in the photo.)
