Dear our beloved supporters,
Firstly, we would like to thank you for your support from the very beginning until now. After graduating from Vietnam Climate Leadership Camp 2021 and being equipped with knowledge and necessary skills, teams have returned to their own homeland and they have been implementing the projects now. We had 7 teams joining in Camp 2. They are Toi Day Dong Day, ANKHOE, GOMers, YNET, The Eco Project, AROS Team, and The Renewable. Here are some reports from all teams.
“Toi Day Dong Day” is a project aiming to build the reuse habits for students by refilling. Then, it helps to reduce the single-use plastic containers at universities in Ho Chi Minh city. Until now, the team successfully cooperated with Hihub to set up their booths.
Regarding the financial management, the team has already built their budget for their project. They also created their own account and fanpage “Toi day dong day” on social media to communicate and spread the message of the project. They have built their communications plan, and have been uploading some information on their pages.
Furthermore, they would recruit volunteers to help them run the project. In terms of external relations, they made proposals and approached different stakeholders to get more funds and maintain the project more sustainably.
ANKHOE is an app focusing on encouraging people to eat more healthily. This app is established to solve the problem that vegetarians usually face. ANKHOE has already finished two functions consisting of empathizing the users and menu on the app. Regarding the content, ANKHOE has completed 50% of the total data they need for the app, and in terms of coding/ technical issues, they finished approximately 30% of the necessary tasks. It includes the language and design.
“GOM - The project to build a network to collect and treat used batteries in Quang Ninh province” is an initiative built by the group GOMers - Generation of Collectors to fight climate change. This used battery management initiative not only focuses on communicating to change public awareness, developing young people's thinking in protecting the environment and especially combating climate change, but also directing to the further goal of safely handling used batteries, meeting environmental technical regulations of the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment.
Until now, the team has implemented many activities such as extracurricular activities, creating the collection point, communicating on social media channels, and working with Quang Ninh’s television station. To be more specific, they contacted Hon Gai High school and other relevant stakeholders. Then, they had meetings with various clubs at school. Also, they created an extracurricular activities program and made battery collection bins. They communicated on social media to spread the message of the project, and they have been contacting Quang Ninh’s television station to introduce the project.
The purpose of the project is to raise awareness about climate change in Vietnam for youths and they have to take action to address this issue.
The project has attracted and engaged a huge number of participants. Concerning communications plans, the posts were designed beautifully and neatly. It led to the positive results for the project. Last but not least, they favorably engaged alumnus of the previous season.
The Eco Project is founded to provide the space for youths, especially students, to discuss, improve their design and critical thinking in terms of sustainable fashion industry. Until now, the team has established their own fanpage, and contacted the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Team also met some challenges including teamwork, and paperwork. However, they have tried their best to solve these problems and run the project.
Team would like to raise awareness and provide knowledge about climate change for students at Ben Tre province. Then, they can acknowledge these issues and protect their health. AROS Team wants to bring this program to four primary schools in Ben Tre Province, attract more than 600 students, parents, teachers, and the Ben Tre Youth Union. Here are some achievements of the AROS Team:
To achieve these goals, the team did research about climate change and salinization. Then, they could build materials and communication plans. Moreover, AROS Team has used their network such as friends, experts,...to be guest speakers in their weekly meetings/ training. Team will continue to reach primary schools in Ben Tre and do online communication campaigns to spread the messages.
The purpose of “The Renewable” is to reduce the single-use plastic consumption and change the habits of students at Van Lang university. Due to many challenges, they are pending their project. However, they tried to recruit the core team already. Then, they continue to plan to make their project happen.
This year, we will continue to organize “Vietnam Climate Leadership Camp 2022”. It is expected to be held in Soc Trang province which has witnessed various climate issues so that participants can acknowledge what is happening on our planet, particularly in the Mekong Delta. We are still raising funds for the campaign this year. Please support us!!! It is believed that your contribution is totally valuable and beneficial for not only our program but also our community.
Once again, thanks for your trust in us!
Sincerely,
CHANGE Team.
Dear our beloved supporters,
We would like to thank you for your trust and support for our climate campers. Finally, after numerous challenges, we were delighted to announce that we have successfully organized the first 5-day offline camp in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City, from 7th to 11th January 2022. Our campers are from different regions in our country. Some already had their projects, but others were established after participating in the camp. Although they had not met each other before, they were close friends and have kept in touch until now.
During the first camp, our participants learned how to apply knowledge and experiences related to design thinking, storytelling, and fundraising in developing their projects. They also got a chance to enhance their teamwork, leadership, and other necessary soft skills through exciting team-building and sight-seeing activities. Besides receiving knowledge from facilitators, campers have supported mentors' expertise in diverse sectors like university, business, NGOs in the climate change sector, and other funds. According to Phuc - leader of Tram Eco sharing that participating four days in the camp helps team members recognize that motivation together is the best method to create endurance for the whole team working with the community, especially after the lasting period of lockdown working online.
Although they have to learn and work continually throughout five days of camp, almost all campers feel excited inspiring, exploring the potential in leading and even weaknesses. Sharing about the field trip, many campers feel so happy because this is the first time they experience walking into the forest, and they seem to refresh themselves and perceive the importance of nature. This inspires and motivates them on the progress of working against climate change.
After the camp, the participants got two more weeks to sharpen their ideas with the support of their mentors. Then, they gathered. Then, the pitching day was organized via Zoom on 23rd January 2022 due to our physical distance. The participating groups presented their projects to the board of examiners. This year, all of the projects were excellent and practical, and the campers were highly creative. They made the examiners excited and surprised because of their ideas. We can acknowledge that they much improved compared to the first time we had received their very first proposal. The examiners had to carefully consider which groups would receive the grant to run their projects. Then, they decided to select seven groups instead of only five groups receiving the grant. These seven groups will use this grant to implement their projects in their locality, and they will be trained about the skillset to run their campaigns in the second camp.
The second camp will be organized from 11th to 13th March 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City. In this camp, the participants will be trained about various necessary skill sets, helping them run their projects. The skills include event planning, financial management, fundraising, communications, event management, and other imperative skills. Then, they will implement their tasks in three following months. We all feel highly enthusiastic about meeting each other again, sharing our ideas, and especially experiencing the beautiful moments like in the first camp.
We strongly believe that the second camp will be helpful for our climate campers. We are also proud that our young leaders are more and more growing with their passion for leaving lasting positive impacts in our community. So please continue to support us!!!!
Once again, thank you for your faith in us.
Sincerely,
The project team.
Dear our kind supporters,
We would like to thank you for your trust and support for us and our climate campers. We were facing the most substantial wave of COVID pandemics in the last few months with the significant rise of infection and death rates. As the center of the pandemic in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City increased COVID restrictions and constantly imposed a curfew. We ultimately worked from home and could not go outside for more than three months. Apparently, our campaigns were highly impacted.
Nevertheless, we made efforts to implement VCLC this year. From an original plan as an offline camp, we now design it into 2 phases: a series of online engagement activities and an on-the-site camp. In August, we gathered all campers in a Facebook group. Since then, we have walked them through several games, quizzes, and challenges so that they can energize, get to know each other, and team up to learn more about the climate crisis, and possible solutions for it. On every weekend, we organize online seminars or workshops on a variety of topics like “working with the community," “leadership," “teamwork," “fundraising," “circular economy," etc. These online sessions will maintain till the end of November this year before we kickstart the offline camp, tentatively from 9th to 12th December.
We strongly hope that COVID will end soon so that we can organize the exciting physical camp as planned. Yet, if the pandemic re-occurs, we will flexibly adjust the plan and move it all online so that our campers will not have to wait for too long. We will update you more on the project’s progress as it goes along.
Once again, thanks a lot for your faith in us.
Please stay safe and healthy wherever you are.
Sincerely,
The project team,
Dear our kind supporters,
We are excited to inform you that we are ready to kick start VCLC (2021) - CHANGE's annual project with an ultimate goal to empower Vietnamese youth to become the change agents in tackling the ongoing climate crisis.
We started fundraising for VCLC this year by late April. The incredible support right after that from our generous supporters - Schwab Charitable, Flora Nguyen, Mateusz Pospiech, and Raymond Phan motivated and brought up the momentum for us to secure more funding for the project. Since then, we have received a few more small grants from some companies and organizations from both outside and inside Vietnam. The budget now is enough for us to bring the next 50 climate leaders onboard. (The funding raised after this period will be saved for the VCLC 2022).
Similar to the camp carried out in 2019 and 2020, VCLC 2021 has 3 phases. The Outreach and Recruitment Phase is taking place where we have recently recruited three passionate volunteers to support organizing the camp and recruiting the next campers. The Training Phase is expected to happen between 10 and 15 August, where campers will be equipped with climate knowledge, 21st-century skills, and active citizenship to develop projects that benefit local communities in their efforts to combat and adapt to the changing climate in Vietnam. By the end of the training camp, campers in their teams will pitch their project ideas to a judging panel. The five most outstanding teams will be selected and advanced into the Incubation phase in the following three months.
Besides recruiting campers, our team is working hard on the training logistics and curriculum regardless of all the challenges caused by the recent recurrence of COVID-19 in Ho Chi Minh City. We hope that the pandemic will be soon under control so that we can organize the camp on time and bring more activists to the climate world. We will update you more on the project's progress as it goes along.
Once again, thanks a lot for your faith in us.
We wish you a lovely weekend ahead.
Sincerely,
The project team.
Dear lovely supporters,
While we are enthusiastically raising funds and planning for the upcoming cycle of "Vietnam Climate Leadership Camp" to produce another batch of climate leaders, our honed campers are thriving and scaling up their projects to increase the impacts on local climate issues.
"The Green River", with a mission to free rivers in Vietnam from plastic pollution, picked Hoi An to be the next project site. Ranking amongst the best 15 travel destinations of Asia, Hoi An attracts 5 million domestic and international visitors each year, which means to shoulder an enormous volume of discharged rubbish. Green River has calculated the river flows, surveyed the daily habits of the locals as well as carried out systematic monitoring to draw up a detailed implementation plan here. The team is about to construct the 2nd generation of the aquatic rubbish collector and expect the machine starts operating in Hoi An this April.
Another project named "EcoFish" has been set up in 6 provinces and cities starting from last April. It utilizes a bamboo whale model which feeds on rubbish to raise awareness of the detrimental influences of leaked plastic disposables on sea creatures. The project has created a huge impact and been well received by the masses of students. It even made it to the top 10 out of 150 booths displaying community initiatives at The International Exhibition of Community Initiatives in Vietnam 2021 and received a certificate of merit from the Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC).
We are so proud of these "unearthed and nurtured" youth leaders who are fuelled by fiery passion within and leaving lasting positive impacts. We also believe many young people out there are incubating initiatives for a better environment. What we need to do is to discover and give these youngsters a nudge to realize their idea and we can not do that without your support. So please continue helping sustain our "Vietnam Climate Leadership Camp" for a bigger impact!
