Empower Highly Outcast Children and Their Families

The seventh generation of Mayama children is nearing the end of the consolidation phase of their educational journey. In this first trimester of the year, the 116 children are being assessed on their life skills, with expectations that the results will reflect the progress they’ve made over the three years of their participation in the Transformation Phase of the care model. Overall, it is evident that the children have made strides in key areas such as interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, decision-making, conflict resolution, understanding and following instructions, self-awareness, as well as self-expression and recognition. They are drawing closer to the desired outcomes outlined in their graduation profile.

Through their learning and observations made by Mayama educators, it is clear that the children have developed skills to work as a team, solve problems, analyze the pros and cons of their decisions, and express their reasoning clearly. They have also improved in following instructions accurately and recognizing and expressing their emotions. These advancements have not only had a positive impact on their personal development, but have also significantly enhanced their relationships within the family and their social environment.

As for the eighth generation, this group of 86 children, along with their 55 families, has just begun their Transformation Phase. By the end of the year, the following key objectives are expected to be achieved:

• A 20% reduction in cases of emotional adjustment issues compared to their baseline assessment in 2024.
• 50% of the caregivers evaluated reaching the optimal zone of positive parenting.

Additionally, these two generations will be the first to benefit from full access to the new Mayama Center’s facilities and resources, which will open its doors to the community in late April 2025, further enhancing their development and learning.

Throughout 2024, the children of the seventh generation have been deepening their learning in their third year of the educational model through the Mi Desarrollo sessions, where they have worked on topics such as emotional literacy, adaptability to change, conflict resolution, support networks, interpersonal relationships, resilience, healthy coexistence, collaborative games, creativity, emotional self-regulation, identity, and more. They have also been evaluated on their emotional adjustment to highlight the progress they have made in regulating and managing their emotions, with more than 60% demonstrating the skills to respond to daily life challenges. Meanwhile, their caregivers have continued to develop their parenting skills, enhancing their abilities in child-rearing. On another, this generation is preparing for their final year of the graduation process, which will take place at the new Mayama Center, expected to open in the first quarter of 2025.

As for the eighth generation of eighty children, a group that joined this year, they have been participating in the trust phase of the model, in which connections are built for working with families and establishing a sense of belonging to the intervention model and learning the language and basic skills of our care model. This generation will also be one of the first beneficiaries of our New Center.
