Empowering beginning

By Paola Vega | Events and Campaigs coordinator

We started this year full of energy, enthuasiasm and arts. Working with integration, safety rules, team work and artistic abilities.

The starting of a new period means to go back to a routine in order to get a work rythim, so the first weeks of the year children and their families remembered the rules we have at the Learning Center, and opening a space of participation they had the opportunity to gave some ideas regarding safety guidelines.

After this important step, our days were focus on developing social abilities trough integration games and activities in wich children could interact between them. The purpose was to help them go back to the routine, build a trusting enviroment and open spaces to strengthen friendship in them, as this contributes to a greater permanence in the program during the year.

Under the premise of learning between equals, children participated in a art project called Empty Bowls, that was guided the whole time by our youngest volunteers. It was a completely new experience for everyone since we use different materials than the usuals. This project was about making from scatch a personalized bowl using clay, and we worked on psicomotor skills, social and creative abilities, helping children to see that everything has a process to get it done.

We had too a special visit from a local leader cardboard Company, that showed them how do they work, their core values and the diverse steps they follow to finish a product. They were very interested on the information and had a lot fun building their own cardboard box.

Finally but not less important, as an organization, this year we will give hugh step, as we started with a fundraiser campaign to build a new learning center that will have wider spaces and more capacity to attend more children and families.

Thank you once more for being part of every new beginnig, you are an important part of this amazing team and the growth we have had among this months. Let’s keep working together to bring out the best in us!
