Campaign on Ghana education service Re-entry policy campaign in schools.
Hello Cherished supporters!
Is yet another moment of reflection on our journey to empower girls from our communities to stay in school and complete their education as futures leaders.
The Sustainable Development Goal 4 aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Target 4.5, particularly, seeks to eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations. It is against this background that Ghana Education Service re-entry policy was developed to prevent pregnancy among schoolgirls and ensuring that school girls who get pregnant are given the opportunity to continue their education during pregnancy and after childbirth. The Ghana Education Service recognizes the right of every child to full cycle of basic education. The service seeks to promote universal access, retention, and completion of every child in Ghana.
To intensify this campaign, Songtaba conducted a monitoring visit to track progress of teenage mothers in partner schools. Teenage mothers were encouraged, urged and motivated to stay and complete their education despite all the stigma and challenges they are faced with. They were advised to abstain from sex and consider their early pregnancy as mistake that will never repeat until marriage. Those with pregnancies were asked to concentrate in their studies and not pregnancy kill their life ambitions. Colleagues may mock at them but that should not deter them from pursuing their future dream of been responsible citizens.
Ms Feruza a 16 years old teenage girl with pregnancy in Junior High school had this to share when visited: I am very happy to write this terminal exams with my colleagues in school with the pregnancy. I got the courage and confidence to be in school and socialize with colleagues because of Songtaba education on the need to support and create comfortable environment for effective teaching and learning for all students including teenage girls with pregnancies and mothers without any discrimination. My teachers always advise me to be serious on my book without been disturbed by my situation, and consider it as a mistake I will never make in my life. And that anybody can be a victim of such situations. My colleagues both in and out of class socialize well with me and create the needed comfort to support my learning. Once again I thank Songtaba and their partners for the encouragement and urge to be in school.
