The Educate, Equip & Empower (EEE) Project is designed to tackle poverty; retention, enrollment and completion of girl child education; enable networking and mentoring between female students and women professionals around the world; and provide access to opportunities for women and girls in northern Nigeria. No additional funds were raised in the period of this report and so previous funding was utlised to support EWEI Online.
EWEI Online, an online platform for horizontal learning, exchange and mentorship among women, hosted three live session mentors and discussed 15 unique topics between June and August 2019. Topics included food safety, skills, conflict related sexual violence, breastfeeding; observance days like World Blood Donor Day, Humanitarian Day and World Youth Day. The platform also shared various global funding and fellowship opportunities that could benefit members.
In June the live chat featured discussions on ‘Women in male-dominated occupations’ and was hosted by ASC1 Bridget Ogugua an Assistant Superintendent of Corps in the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps. In July, the live online chat was centered on ‘’Learning as a means to developing skills’’ hosted by Shakira Alaga a communication strategist and co-founder of Ecospace in Kaduna State. For August 2019, a discussion on ‘Humanitarian Aid’ was hosted by Semira Tosin Agabu, a Humanitarian Aid Worker based in Nigeria. In addition, several outreaches and hangouts were carried out to boost participation on EWEI Online. This resulted in an increase of participants from 58 to 150 members.
Challenge:From inception, EWEI Online has been faced with the challenge of low online participation which is one of the major behavioural issues the project aims to address.
Mitigation: Certain activities like outreaches, hangouts and giving out of freebies, has made for a slight increase in participation on the platform. With more funding, it is expected that the project would be more far-reaching and have more impact.
