The project will tackle issues of poverty, girl child education, networking and access to opportunities. This project targets girls and women of four different profiles in Kaduna in northern Nigeria. Through the project, we aim to subsidize the education of ten girls in public secondary schoosl over two years, train and mentor 120 indigent rural women (mostly widows and heads of households) and engage 100 adult females in two tertiary institutions and empower 2 female artists.
Rural Kaduna has high incidence of poverty, which affects children education, hygiene, nutrition and health. Girls/women are most affected, as they become breadwinners with the dereliction of their husbands/fathers. Without income skills, most females are at the mercy of vices. Survey suggests 6 of 10 girls quit school due to poverty. Females have difficulty accessing gender- empowerment information, absence of online mentoring forums and lack of exposure harness skills to promote gender causes
The project will financially support the education of 10 girls in public secondary schools and build their capacity in life skills over two years. It will train, mentor and support 120 indigent women (widows and heads of households) in income generating skills as well as soft loans to enable them start up small businesses. It will also engage 100 female college students in an online network.
Ten girls will complete their secondary school education, giving them a fighting chance to further their education. The capacity of 120 indigent women would have been built, their level of poverty reduced with an improved economic status. 100 female adults from two tertiary institutions empowered, connected and engaged in capacity building and exchange.
