EEE Project December 2018 Report

This project is helping change the lives of girls and women in Kaduna, north-west Nigeria.

Grace, one of the EEE Project beneficiairies has this to say "I am so happy to have an opportunity to work with EWEI and continue to learn and grow. This is a unique opportunity and in these past months, I have learnt so much and I feel better equipped for my education ahead. I feel like I can do anything!"

With almost 100 female college students and professionals now on the EWEI Online platform and with regular female mentor hosts now featuring, we are accomplishing what was a dream for us. Topics beign tackled on this platform are empowering and educative and providing a platform for young women to engage in a safe space.

With more support, we can train more women and empower them with skills and resources to change their lives and give them and their families a fighting chance in the harsh economic climate in Kaduna, Nigeria. We also seek to help girls and women develop the crtiical life skills they need not just to survive but to thrive in today's world.

Every year 1 January is a sad day for the Achakwus because the death of the breadwinner and father of 15-year-old Melody Joseph. Her hope of becoming a doctor looked like a difficult task to achieve. Melody is the fourth of seven siblings; she is from Benue State and was a student of Government Girls Secondary School Television Kaduna. Things became difficult for her mother after her father’s death and it seemed like Melody’s dream of completing her secondary school education was never going to materialize. That is, until EWEI visited her school to select beneficiaries to be a part of the Educational Subsidy Programme and due to her excellent performance in the assessment test and academic performance, she was selected.

Melody says the day she was informed that she was selected, it that was the happiest day of her life and her words were, “Do not let anyone make you feel inferior. Remember that God loves you and he is there to help you in any situation.” Melody’s favorite quote is “Dream it ; believe it and you can become it. If you have light, let others light their candles.”

Melody is one of the young girls your donations have helped support.

The Educate, Equip & Empower (EEE) project is designed to tackle poverty; retention, enrollment and completion of girl child education; enable networking and mentoring between female students and women professionals around the world and provide access to opportunities for women and girls in northern Nigeria.

The project activities include:

Subsidising the education of ten girls in public schools at the post-basic education level over a period of two years
Financially supporting 120 indigent women residing in informal settlements or low-income communities and
Engaging 100 adult females in tertiary institutions by providing a digital platform for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
