With limited contributions over the past quarter, EWEI has channeled previous support to EWEI Online which is Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative’s online chat platform for learning, horizontal exchange and mentoring. This platform was designed to provide opportunities for interaction and mentoring by young females who are studying or starting out in their careers with diverse women professionals from around the world on topics related to their educational and professional development.
Throughout December, different topics were discussed on the platform that included HIV/AIDS and civic engagement in light of the upcoming 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
On 25 January 2019, the online mentor chat centered on “Human Rights” and was hosted by EWEI Mentor and Technical Adviser Catherine D. Ishu, a legal practitioner based in Nigeria. The chat featured had 49 unique interactions despite network and accessibility problems and was very educative for the community.
As at January 2019, EWEI Online hosted 107 members on the platform, an 11% increase from November 2018.
