EDUCATE, EQUIP AND EMPOWER 230 WOMEN AND GIRLS

The Educate, Equip & Empower (EEE) project is designed to tackle poverty, retention, enrollment and completion of girl child education, enable networking and mentoring between female students and women professionals around the world and provide access to opportunities for women and girls in Nigeria.

June 2022 – August 2022 Update

Over the past quarter, EWEI Online has conducted a number of activities within the online community to promote horizontal learning, exchange and mentorship.

In June 2022, we facilitated discussions on the Rights of the Child, featuring the following sub-themes:

Child Rights: This included conceptualising child rights, analysing the UN Conventions on the Rights of the Child, examining child rights in Nigeria and Kaduna State.
Child Labour and Child Abuse: Here, we conceptualised child abuse, looked at the various types of abuse, explored child labour as the most visible type of abuse, discussed child sexual exploitation and evaluated child protection laws, as well as the #KeepYourHandstoYourself Campaign.
Children in Conflict: This incorporated conceptualising children in conflict, analysing children's experiences in conflict zones, assessing child rights in conflict and examining ways to protect children, particularly girls, in conflict.
Raising Exceptional Children: Discussions here centred around the core values that children should be taught.

In July 2022, we engaged in interactive discussions on Family Planning. The topics covered explicitly were:

Preparation for Facebook Live: Surveying pro-life and pro-choice individuals on Facebook and developing a campaign for a Facebook Live, as well as setting up the Facebook Live.
Facebook Live and Conceptualising Family Planning: Holding a Facebook Live with the topic of "Abortion: Prochoice and Prolife", along with conceptualising family planning, discussing the theme of World Population Day, and how it links to family planning, as well as sharing fun facts.
Importance of Family Planning: Narrating stories and providing illustrative importance of family planning and sharing fun facts.
Methods of Family Planning: Examining each of the family planning methods and their effects.

In August 2022, we Celebrated Women who made their Mark Across Generations:

1960s and 70s
1980S and 90s
2000s and 2010s
2020s (Present)

CHALLENGES

One of the most significant challenges we are facing is a lack of enthusiasm from members to engage on the page, which has led to us falling short of our desired target of 300 memberships. We are determined to raiseawareness and spur more interest in order to bridge the gap and reach our target.

MITIGATION

In an effort to increase engagement and membership, we continued to share educational resources and funding opportunities with EWEI Online members, and sought to diversify our content by including videos, articles, images and puzzle games to foster interactivity. We also shared the link to the page repeatedly on EWEI's social media accounts for publicity and sent out invitations to join the membership.

NEXT STEPS

Going forward, we will maintain and even expand our cross-posting strategy to increase our reach. In order to do so, we will regularly post information about EWEI Online on all of EWEI's social media platforms, with the goal of encouraging more ladies to join the page and engaging the members already present.

We will also host our monthly E-Chat video chat, publicise our events on EWEI Online, and organise facebook live events. This will enable us to discuss topics, educate, and have fun with the members and get their opinions on topics and content they are interested in engaging with. By doing this, we can further increase the reach of our platform and engage with a broader audience.

The Educate, Equip & Empower (EEE) project is designed to tackle poverty, retention, enrollment and completion of girl child education, enable networking and mentoring between female students and women professionals around the world and also provide access to opportunities for women and girls in Nigeria.

March2022 – May 2022 Update

EWEI Online, our online community for horizontal learning, exchange and mentorship, has in the last quarter carried out impactful activities online.

In March 2022, we engaged in discussions around Climate Action with the theme: Sustainable Future for Women and Girls. Under this theme, we discussed the following:

Understanding climate change and how climate change and natural disasters affect women
Celebrating women and girls' climate change activists
Understanding recyclables, types of recyclables and reusable pads
Celebrating women engaged in recyclable technologies

In this quarter, we also had fun facts, shared videos and played games to help members visually understand and engage in key topics we discussed.

In April 2022, we had interactive discussions around Health and Wellness in celebration of the World Health Day.Discussions we covered were:

Understanding autism, risk factors that cause autism, facts and myths about autism and individuals with autism that are excelling in their careers
Marked the World Health Day 2022 with the theme; Our Planet Our Health
Malaria, our health, and how to prevent malaria. Also, we carried out an online campaign for free anti-malaria drug
General tips on how to stay healthy

In May 2022, our discussion was on Peace and Diversity. The following sub-topics were covered:

Understanding peace and security in Nigeria
Discussing information and communication as pivotal tools in maintaining peace
Understanding how to build a culture of peace in children
Discussions on general security tips for outdoors and indoors

CHALLENGES

The major challenge is irregular engagement by members on the page. In addition, we are yet to reach our target number of memberships on the page (300 members).

MITIGATION

To address the challenge of irregular engagement, we continued sharing educational resourcesand opportunities, stories and interactive games to engage the EWEI Online members. We shared useful security and safety tips, alongside funding opportunities. We also sharedvideos to promote interactivity among members. To address the challenge of irregular membership, we inform participants by sharing the link to the page during EWEI events and encourage women and girls we interact with to become members.

NEXT STEPS

Moving forward, we will continue to implement the cross-posting methods. That is, we will regularly post information regarding EWEI Online on all EWEI's social media platforms encouraging ladies to join the page, engage in polls, post riddles, share videos, fun facts and ask questions to promote interactivity.

We will also organise Facebook live chats and events to discuss with members on trending issues that affect every day social and professional life, and also, get their opinions on issuesthey will want to engage with on the platform.

December 2021 – February 2022 Update

EWEI Online, our online community for horizontal learning, exchange and mentorship, has in the last quarter carried out impactful activities online.

In December 2021, we engaged in discussions around Gender Based Violence, with the theme; End Violence Against Women Now. Our major subthemes were as follows:

Conceptualising violence against women under the following areas; definition of violence against women, understanding gender-based violence and other types of violence against women.
Violence against women in educational and religious institutions and how to mitigate them.
Violence against women in political institutions, workspace violence and how to mitigate them.
Violence against women entrepreneurs/freelancers, violence against women in the family and methods of mitigation.

In January 2022, we had interactive discussions around Education.Sub themes covered were:

Reviving the reading culture through tips on improving reading habits, book suggestions and developing reading culture among members.
Gender gap in education with focus on reasons for this gender gap and solutions.
The new wave of digital learning, benefits, tools and success stories of young women benefitting from digital learning
Celebrating young women in education by sharing their success stories

In February 2022, our discussion was on Cancer Awareness. The following sub-topics were covered:

Understanding cancer and debunking cancer related myths
Highlighting and discussing the different types of cancer
Designing actions that can be taken against cancer through preventive measures, care and protection of cancer patients
Celebrating women cancer survivor

In this quarter, we also had fun facts and shared videos to help members visually understand and engage in key topics we discussed.

CHALLENGES

The major challenge is low engagement by members on the page. In addition, we are still yet to reach our target number of memberships on the page (300 members).

MITIGATION

To address the challenge of low engagement, we continued sharing educational resources and stories to engage the EWEI Online members, shared useful Do It Yourself (DIY) for online tools, alongside funding opportunities. We also started sharing videos to promote interactivity among members. To address the challenge of low membership, we shared the link to the page during EWEI events and encourage women and girls we interact with to become members.

NEXT STEPS

We will also organise Facebook live events to discuss with members on trending issues that affect every day social and professional life,and also,get their opinions on topics they will want to engage with more on the platform.
