This quarter Cherish Others provided funds to improve a road in the Transmara region to enable children to walk to their schools. This project was carried out in support of one of our organization’s objectives, which is to empower girls through access to education.
Roads in the Transmara region are poorly maintained, if at all, by the government, mainly due to lack of funding to do the work. Children in the region all walk to school, often for many kilometers. The terrible condition of the roads makes it difficult and often impossible for children to walk to school, especially when it rains.
Cherish Others carried out a project to improve one of the highly used roads. The photos show workers carrying out the work, and Ruth, the Director of Cherish Others, walking on the improved road. This road provides the only access to five schools, including a primary school, a secondary school, a kindergarten, a special needs school, and a Catholic school.
The people of the area, especially the parents of the children and the school administrators, are extremely grateful to Cherish Others for undertaking this project. As always, Cherish Others makes clear that donations through GlobalGiving help fund its activities.
