Boys and Girls Club of St. Charles Co. (New Club)
By Jeanette Koechner | Resource Development Director
Just last week, the steel for the new facility was delivered to the site. With that happening, we know that the dreams of the boys and girls of the community will soon become a reality. The site is being made ready for construction to begin. It is necessary to relocate two utility poles before we can proceed. But as soon as that happens, which will be in the immediate future, we will hear the sound of the earth moving equipment. That will be music to everyone's ears.
Groundbreaking is planned to happen in very early July. And after that we will see a lot of progress in constructing the new club. We are still raising funds as we have not met our final goal, but it is necessary to move forward with the construction and continue to raise money.
With all the rains, our current club continues to leak and manages to keep many rooms unusable. This is exciting for us to see this become a reality but there is still much work to do and funds to be raised. All help is needed and greatly appreciated.

Boys & Girls Club-St. Charles, MO- new facility
By Jeanette Koechner | Resrouce Development Director
The final plans have been accepted and the steel has been ordered and deliver is set for mid May with ground breaking to be in June, 2011. This is a big step forward as there was a hold on the previous plans due to the necessary changes made to the pool area because of the anticipated usage. A new facility, will replace the current Boys and Girls Club which is over 50 years old and extremely outdated and ineffective for the programs offered. In today's economy, the services and programs offered at the Boys and Girls Club are extremely important. Many of our members have had to not participate in activities outside their homes due to the financial stress their parents are experiencing. Many of our members parents are unemployed and many come from single parent households. Children are left home alone because funds are short and daycare is not possible. This is where the Boys and Girls Club is so important. For many, the Boys and Girls Club is a home away from home. It is a place where they do their homework, It is a place where they get a meal before they go to bed. It is a safe place where they can be kids and enjoy participating in sporting activities. But most importantly it is a place where they are encouraged to reach their full potential, become better students, stay in school, build self-esteem and become better citizens in the community.
The funds are not fully raised for the facility, but it is important that we move forward and start the building process. Replacement of the current Boys and Girls Club is not an option. It is no longer economically reasonable to continue to stay in the building and absorb the uncontrollable maintenance costs that continue to pop up.
A new Boys and Girls Club would allow many more children to be served while continuing to be a pillar in the community. The Boys and Girls Club began in St. Charles County over 50 years ago and many children have passed through the doors and there are many more to follow.

Plans for Visitors and Members Swim Area Expanded due to anticipated usage
By Jeanette Koechner | Resource Development Director
The area designated for spectators and swimmers has been redesigned due to the anticipated usage and the fact that the pool will be occupied by swimmers and divers, during our down time, by Lindenwood University. Their involvement in the project is of monumental importance. By enlarging the area it will be possible to hold and host swim meets at the facility, whereas now, we much depend on other pools and facilities. We will be able to provide swim instructions and competition for many more boys and girls club members. They will be able to practice and qualify for competitive events and pursue college scholarships.
Expanding the area did call for a change in the steel shipment for the new structure. This change, however, did not involve any other aspect of the facility. Plans to break ground within the next couple of months are still on target.
