Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Country New Facility
By Jeanette Koechner | Director of Community Development
Summer Camp will be completed on August 4th only to follow with the After School Program beginning on August 14th. It has been an extremely busy time for the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County. There has been an average daily attendance of 140 children a day. On a daily basis, the children are served breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. We know for many of our members, these meals and snacks were their main source of food. Over 60% of our members qualify for free or reduced lunch. Over 70% live in a single-parent/caregiver home and 52% identify as a racial or ethnic minority. During the 10 week period of Summer Camp over 16,000 healthy, nutritious meals and snacks were served to members. But as important, they were encouraged and participated in programs that allowed them to continue their education, in a fun way, and not lose the desire to succeed academically. Summer programs are designed with high yield activities and exercise that promote a healthy lifestyle.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County is not without a building loan. It became imperative that we vacate the old Club and move into the new facility before we had raised sufficient funds for the project. Therefore we continue to reach out to donors to help us meet the financial obligation and become debt free. Once that happens, funds now being used to diminish the debit will be used to increase the number of programs or enhance existing programs at the Club with more staff being added to meet this goal. But until then, we will continue to serve our members as we have for the past 62 years. The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County provides a safe and healthy environment where members can participate in the valuable programs that are lead by caring staff and volunteers.

Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Country New Facility
By Jeanette A. Koechner | Director of Community Development
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County continues to reach out to the children in the community. Currently the After School Program for the school year 2016-2017 will come to an end and Summer Camp will begin. It is important that the Boys & Girls Clubs remain open and available to all children throughout the year. Our doors will remain open to all boys and girls from 6 to 18 years of age. We accept all children, especially those who need us the most. No child is turned away. Membership is only $25 per year. Summer Camp will incur additional fees due to the long hours of operation and additional opportunities that are provided the children. If it were not for the Clubs, many children would be left home along and without supervision. In the summer, this may be all day and after school, it may be for hours. This is a time when children may engage in behavior that will lead to trouble with their parents and sometimes the law enforcement. This is one of the many reasons the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County is important and fills that need.
Programs take place all year at the Boys & Girls Club. We do not want our children to experience the loss of their drive of learning when they are out of school during the summer months. We have programs that a designed to continualy peek the child's interest during the summer months and keep them engaged in the learning process. Also Summer Camp provides two healthy nutritious meals and a snack daily. Hunger does not take a holiday.
Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County Board of Directors and Staff are deligently working to dispose of the debt that was incurred through the construction of the new facility. We are not debt free but look to the future when that will happen and all monetary fundraising efforts will be applied to the valuable programs offered at the Clubs. This will be a highly celebrated day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County.

Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Country New Facility
By Jeanette A. Koechner | Director of Community Development
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County continues to serve the children in the community. The Club's mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The Club in St. Charles, MO, was relocated to a new facility in June 2014 without being debt free. The challange of disposing of the outstanding balance remains constant. Donors are sought out by Board Members, Community Members and Staff. Contacting all avenues remain constant and extremely important.
The outstanding debt has not stood in the way of providing the valuable programs to the childred served at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County. Membership fees of $25 per year per member has remained constant. For some families this may even be a problem, but no child is turned away. Programs are designed to keep pace with the ever changes in the community and society.
The need for the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County will never go away. It is extremely fortunate that the Club can provide a safe and secure environment where children can participate in age appropriate programs and acitivities. All programs at the Clubs are derived from the following: Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Live Skills, Sports, Fitness and Recreation as well as the Arts. By participating in these program, children are encouraged to prepare for a bright and rewarding future. They are encouraged and help to keep pace or excel in their grades. They are taught the value of healthy living thru exercise and proper eating habits. They are taught how to avoid the pitfalls of the use of illegal drugs, alcohol and other issues that face our young boys and girls as they pass thru the years of becoming responsible adults. Over 60% of the children served by the Boys & Girls Cubs of St. Charles County live in or below the poverty level. It is important that the Club continues to do what is does to provide for the children. The Boys & Girls Cubs of St. Charles County will remain to be a home away from home for many children in the communuity.
