The final plans have been accepted and the steel has been ordered and deliver is set for mid May with ground breaking to be in June, 2011. This is a big step forward as there was a hold on the previous plans due to the necessary changes made to the pool area because of the anticipated usage. A new facility, will replace the current Boys and Girls Club which is over 50 years old and extremely outdated and ineffective for the programs offered. In today's economy, the services and programs offered at the Boys and Girls Club are extremely important. Many of our members have had to not participate in activities outside their homes due to the financial stress their parents are experiencing. Many of our members parents are unemployed and many come from single parent households. Children are left home alone because funds are short and daycare is not possible. This is where the Boys and Girls Club is so important. For many, the Boys and Girls Club is a home away from home. It is a place where they do their homework, It is a place where they get a meal before they go to bed. It is a safe place where they can be kids and enjoy participating in sporting activities. But most importantly it is a place where they are encouraged to reach their full potential, become better students, stay in school, build self-esteem and become better citizens in the community.
The funds are not fully raised for the facility, but it is important that we move forward and start the building process. Replacement of the current Boys and Girls Club is not an option. It is no longer economically reasonable to continue to stay in the building and absorb the uncontrollable maintenance costs that continue to pop up.
A new Boys and Girls Club would allow many more children to be served while continuing to be a pillar in the community. The Boys and Girls Club began in St. Charles County over 50 years ago and many children have passed through the doors and there are many more to follow.
