With YOUR SUPPORT, 65 household of Onewang Village, situated in a remote location in the hills of Chitwan with no access to electricity were equipped with Solar Light. Now, they do not have to rely on kerosene based wicked lamp for lighting their evening hours which had created enormous amount of negative health impact and economic impact in their daily life till day. In addition to the distribution of solar tuki, a group of 5 local youths were also trained for repair and maintenance of Solar tuki in case of need in future.

To increase the enrolment and attendance of students in school, the solar panels for charging the solar tuki were installed in the school as a mass charging station. This will encourage parents and Guardians to send their students to school in order to get their solar tuki charged and they could get clean and better light in evening hours.

We would like to acknowledge Shanti Griha (an organization working in Onewang Chitwan) for providing us an opportunity to serve in the community who are in need of those lights.

We acknowledge your support to date and seek your support to bring more impact in the life of these students studying and people living in rural areas. You can increase your impact through donating in October 17th, 12:00 Noon EST onwards in the website on Global Giving bonus day. Global Giving is providing 30% matching bonus in the donations received in projects and matching up to US $ 50,000. Hence, we would like to request you to circulate this message within your friends and family so that we could be able to raise more funds and change the life of needy ones.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all our supporters, well-wisher and partners of Global Giving. We would also like to receive your feedback and suggestions in coming days ahead.

Seasonal greetings and thank you, to all our donors, supporters and well-wishers for your continuous support in our program. Without your support we would not have been able to serve the needy community in our country.

New Youth Children Development Society is an orphanage being operated by a group of youth in Bhaktapur District. It serves 52 deprived orphan children from various location of different age from 6 to 18.The orphanage has been providing all the basic needs of the orphans living there along with quality education.

However the centre faced a problem along with the entire country related to power crisis. The children who were staying there had a hard time studying after they returned from the school as the peak time for the power cut was in the evening. They used to study under the candle lights which created a nuisance for them. The main reason for it was the fire flame and being cautious towards the burning candles which created a lapse of concentration towards their studies. In addition they could not study at places, they wanted as the candle possessed high chances of fire accidents and also it could be easily extinguished by wind.

Thus keeping this in mind ECCA with financial support from Donors like you, has provided solar lights to the all the children of the orphanage in 50% subsidized rate. Along with it a solar mass charging station has been established where the light holders charge their solar lights. They charge their lights in the daytime and use it to study in the evenings.

These solar lights have provided an opportunity for the orphans to study in their regular schedule unlike the days before where they used to wait for the electricity to come. Even they can study at their desired place like in bed, in the balcony etc and the problems are not faced like those with the candle. “Now I do not need to wait for the electricity to study and the light seems better than the candle”, said Parshuram who is one of the residences of the orphanage.

We thank you for partnering with us to help the rural people and students of Nepal better their lives in an ecologically sustainable way. We hope for your suggestion and recommendation in future.

New Community Charging System for School

Thank you, to all our donors, supporters and well-wishers for your continuous support in our effort to provide a clean solar light alternative in place of kerosene lamps for the rural people of Nepal.

In past months, we had received requests to support for the installation of community charging centre in two areas; Chitwan and Solukhumbu. Hence, we had made a technical and design evaluation of our previous community charging centre installed in two areas through interviews and telephone inquiry. With the feedback received from the community, a new model of community charging centre has been designed, which is easy to use for the rural people in terms of technical and is much cost effective than previous community charging system.

Similarly, Mr. Charturbhuj (a youth returned from Arabian country, searching opportunity to work in our own country) has been trained in assembling the solar system. He has been exploring the opportunity to create the market of solar in western region of Nepal. An initial investment to support him for the promotion of solar systems in western region has been made.

Request for the installation of community charging centre at various rural areas are in consideration and evaluation to provide maximum benefit to the rural people of Nepal.

We thank you for partnering with us to help the rural people and students of Nepal better their lives in an ecologically sustainable way.

With the beginning of New Year 2012, hopes for the rural people to get a better lighting solution during evening hours are very low. The main reason is due to increase in demand for electricity in urban areas, limited construction and development of hydro power projects, remoteness for the extension of electricity cables. The one and only option to get the light during evening hours for the rural people is through solar lighting system. Hence, the popularity of solar tuki and solar lighting system in rural areas are in increasing trend.

On December 2011, a field visit to Dolkha District was made to explore the possibilities for the promotion of solar tuki. Dolkha District lies in the eastern region of Nepal and is one of the district with settlements in the hilly region. Discussions with the officials of District Development Committee and local organization representatives, to identify the need and the areas for promotion of solar tuki were made. A request for the promotion of solar tuki in Khopacha Village had also been received. As the community are not in the state to pay the upfront cost of solar tuki, installation of a community charging center is in progress.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the team of GlobalGiving for your continuous support and all our donors for your continuous support in our initiation towards eradicating kerosene lamp from rural areas of Nepal and promoting safe and clean lighting option to rural household. We would also like to request you to send us your feedback, comments and suggestion regarding our program at ecca@mos.com.np, so that we could implement our programs more effectively.
