Improve Livelihoods of 225 HIV-Affected Families
By Lucy Mathenge | Project Assistant
The year 2019 has started well and all our beneficiaries are in good health. They are now preparing their farms in readiness for planting during long rains expected to start in March. It’s very dry in most parts of the country and our beneficiaries are working hard to search for pastures for their livestock. We appreciate their efforts and determinations to feed the livestock. To improve on this situation during the dry spell, we intend to train our farmers how they can conserve animal feed when they are in plenty and use them during the dry spell. Some farmers are also struggling to get water for domestic use and for their livestock where they are walking long distances to get water. In our previous reports we had plans to improve water situations in our farmers’ households to ensure they have water during the dry seasons. We tried to fundraise for drilling shallow wells and rain water harvesting techniques but we were not successful on either but we have been encouraging farmers to install simple rain water harvesting structures but most of them have not managed on their own. Those who have managed, have installed roof water harvesting structures but the water collected can take them for a very short period. There is need to have more long term solution to the challenges and towards this we call upon well-wishers to help us realize some of these dreams. We have not given up on fundraising as we want our farmers to have access to clean water for their domestic use. We appreciate farmers’ efforts to sustain their gardens and livestock and as they prepare for the long rains, we will continue walking the journey with them. We intend to support them with planting materials and organic fertilizer as we have been doing previously. We invite our friends, partners and well-wishers to support our farmers as we also appreciate their hard work and continue motivating them. We look forward to a successful year 2019. Thank you for all the support given and we expect even more for us to realize our dreams.

As we approach the end of the year, we are happy for the achievements we have made. It has been challenging in various ways but we are grateful we managed in one way or the other. The achievements we have made is through our partners and our well-wishers from different places and we appreciate all the support given. Our beneficiaries and community at large have expressed their gratitude for every support given to them and they are working forward for sustainability. The year has been productive and most farmers are happy as they were able to harvest good yields despite damages as a result of heavy rainfall in parts of the country. As earlier reported we continued with our monitoring and evaluation exercise and we are happy the progress with our beneficiaries is impressing, beneficiaries of goats and chicken have reported that this initiative has really uplifted them and motivated them to further production. Nutrition has improved as a result of eggs, milk and meat accessibilities and our beneficiaries are looking healthy and energetic. We intend to extend this program by empowering our farmers and beneficiaries so as to work together, learn and realize more as a result of collaborating. In our trainings we have been involving all the community members and other stakeholders to ensure continuous harmony among all the players. As we conclude the year, we request our partners and well wishers to continue supporting our project for more achievements and improving living standards of the families affected by HIV/Aids. Thank you for the continued support and we hope you will continue making lives of the less privileged in our society meaningful.

Improve Livelihoods of 225 HIV-Affected Families

It has been well with all our beneficiaries and we thank God the good progress we have had. It has been raining heavily since March and although some crops were badly affected by the heavy rains, farmers still have reasons to smile. There have been plenty of vegetables in the market and also in the farms and we are happy our beneficiaries are practicing value addition on the vegetables by solar drying them to be used during dry spell when there will be no vegetables in the farms. They appreciate the trainings and skills given and they are also training other farmers who are taking advantage of the varieties available.
Our beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude for the support of chicken and dairy goats given and they have reported that they are progressing on well and they promise to take good care of the goats and chicken. We have been conducting monitoring and evaluation with all the beneficiaries and we are happy to report that the progress is impressing. We managed to conduct food and nutrition training as earlier promised and we involved even the non-beneficiaries as we realized that this is a very important topic to everybody as we have realized that many people don’t know what is healthy eating and how to balance their diets to meet the nutrition needs of their families. We hope to conduct many of these trainings to sensitize our people on the issues concerning their nutrition needs. We hope to get more resources to enable us conduct these and other trainings especially for the families affected by Hiv/Aids. Thank you all who have contributed to the success of this project and we request them to consider extending their support.
