The long waited lunch rained a bit in November and December though not much as it was expected. Our beneficiaries were excited to revive their gardens and plant new crops. Although the rains were not very heavy we supported them with planting materials and seeds which they planted but since the rain was not enough, they did not do very well but atleast this January they are smiling since they have vegetables in their kitchen gardens which will sustain them for a while as they wait for long rains in April. We are planning to support them with organic fertilizer and if possible additional planting materials and seeds. Due to prolonged drought last year, in most parts of the country our beneficiaries had serious challenges on water issues and the little irrigation they were doing was not sustainable. For these reasons we are training our farmers on how to use simple and affordable techniques of water harvesting. We will also fundraise towards simple irrigation kits which they can use after water harvesting. We are also considering on organizing refresher training on value addition on farm produce to encourage them to practice these techniques to preserve their surplus. We hope this year we will in fundraising and we invite our friends and well wishers to join us towards these initiatives of supporting the less privileged in our society.
