The power of the Game!

For more than fourteen years, Tiempo de Juego has used game-based activities to promote Colombia's social change. COVID 19 made us put all of our efforts and creativity into creating alternative education content for more than 3000 children and youth in different Colombian territories: How can we still provide a quality service in territories where there is a lack of connectivity and technology?

During these months we have created radio programs for children that lacked access to the internet, a virtual platform to promote peer education and interaction between children, educational booklets, among other strategies - Now, more than ever, children need recreational activities to keep their emotional, cognitive and motor development -

To keep financing these actions and increase the number of children and youth learning through the game, we have created the digital festival "The Power of the game," which will take place on November 26 and 27th. This event seeks to gather different perspectives around the transformative power that the game has to create more equitable and inclusive societies. Therefore, diverse professionals and specialists from various disciplines - psychology, politics, sports, videogames, film, literature, among others - will discuss this transformational power from their experience. Now anyone, in any part of the world can attend Tiempo de Juego's fundraising event!

Additionally, we have launched a virtual race named 5Kzuca. This athletics event will bring together hundreds of people to support and make visible that, through a great sport, Teenage Pregnancy may be prevented. This race seeks to strengthen sports schools and to guarantee better performance and transformation in children's lives. This race will take place from November 14th to 27th, and athletes may run 5k or ride 35k in bicycle wherever they want to - in parks, roads, treadmills, bike rollers, etc. - in any country. Watch our Tiempo de Juego dreams festival!

Every year, we used to create art festivals in all of our chapters - Cazuca, Magdalena, and Timbiqui -. We invited people from the community and showed them what we worked on during the year. This year, of course, things changed for us and we had to ask ourselves how to show everyone our arts, music, dance, and literature products. It didn't take a long time to realize that this was a great opportunity to create an intercultural dialogue between our participants all around Colombia, and that is how Tiempo de Juego Dreams was created!

On October 24th we broadcasted our virtual festival, and, more than 900 children, young people, and families were connected, watching the art products and getting inspired by their peers. Want to get inspired too?

Sports during quarantine

Facing the quarantine due to COVID 19 has been a challenge for Tiempo de Juego. For fourteen years we have been doing face to face activities and, all of a sudden, we had to start thinking in our job in a virtual, non- physical contact way. Technology is not easily found in most of the communities we work with, so meetings at zoom, meets, teams - as it is done worldwide- is not possible for achieving our goals. Therefore, we have created Virtual Tiempo de Juego, using basic social networks to keep spreading our message.

This way, we have made psychosocial challenges that involve family interaction, to promote healthy family dynamics, and technical challenges that involve different exercises and physical activities to promote healthy lifestyles for our participants. All these, through Facebook, Whatsapp, and other basic social networks.

It hasn't been easy to reinvent ourselves and the way we reach our participants. Nevertheless, we acknowledge the importance of improving virtual methods, because there are still more than 5000 children at their homes waiting for activities that improve their cognitive, social, and technical skills.

These times have also been used to improve the community leader's training in different topics as gender focus, technical and psychosocial skills. The latter will help us to provide better training spaces for every participant, in any discipline of sports, arts, or technology.

We'll keep facing this challenge with optimism and creativity, to achieve our main mission: Use the game as a tool to create change agents in different communities.
