Donations Continue to Flood Peru!

Donations Arrive at VIDA Peru Warehouse
Donations Arrive at VIDA Peru Warehouse

5 more containers carrying hospital beds, birthing beds, ICU beds, exam tables along with walkers, canes, crutches, wheelchairs and over 1,000 of boxes medical supplies have been shipped between February 1rst and April 10th of 2018 with a value of over $2.5 million. These containers are part of a long-rebuild of the destroyed healthcare infrastructure throughout Peru as a result of the devastating floods of 2017.

VIDA thanks GlobalGiving donors for your support! VIDA has made a total of 22 shipments (ocean and air) carrying nearly $20 million in aid in response to the tragic flooding that destroyed over 100,000 homes and 300 plus hospitals/clinics.

This project would not be possible without the generous support of Stanford Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente and John Muir Hospital. Their generous donations of medical supplies and equipment has brought care and comfort to hundreds of thousands of people.

VIDA looks forward to continuing this project.

VIDA Supports Medical Missions to Haiti

Dear Friends of Haiti,

In spite of the many struggles to fund shipments and move donations through customs, VIDA remains committed to this impoverished country that has now receded into the background after the tragic earthquake. VIDA has worked with two medical missions as a means to provide care empower teams to people in need to Haiti.

VIDA is continuing to send additional aid to our project in Cayes Jacmel which is still reeling from the effects of the devastating earthquake. A group of physicians led by Dr. Magloir continues to visit Haiti twice a year, bringing with them donated supplies and equipment from VIDA. Recently, the group carried 10 suitcases of expensive respiratory supplies and equipment along with patient care materials.   The value of the materials was in excess of $25,000.  These types of shipments will continue four times a year due to your support.

VIDA looks forward to expanding on this model made possible by your generous support.

200+ Hospital Beds already Shipped to Peru in 2018

VIDA’s shipments to Peru are on a record pace in 2018! In the first two months of 2018, VIDA has shipped 8 containers thanks to the generosity of donations from Kaiser Permanente and Stanford Healthcare and transportation donations by Otis McAlister Inc. and U.C. Berkeley students from Project SCIFI, Seed of Health, Berkeley Medical Reserve Corps (BMRC).  These shipments represent a new partnership being led by Peru's First Lady, Nancy Lange, who is spearheading an effort to upgrade and increase the number of beds available in Peru's hospital system that provide care to poorest Peruvians.  To that end, VID has already shipped over 200 Hill Rom hospital beds along with valuable medical supplies and ambulatory equipment to use as much space in the 40' containers as possible without damaging the beds.  VIDA is in the process of securing commitments for another 200 plus beds in 2018.

A major cost in this project is the ocean freight from Oakland to Callao.  GlobalGiving donors play an important role in making these shipments possible.  The people of Peru and VIDA thank you for your continued generosity.
