A 8.4 magnitude earthquake hit central Chile on September 16th, damaging hospitals around and north of Santiago. VIDA has connected with our local partner FEDES to supply needed medical supplies to those hospitals and clinics serving Chile's impoverished citizens.
The most urgent need is to raise funds to support the shipment of multiple containers by sea to Chile. Each container holds approximately 1 million in donated medical supplies and cost approx, $10,000 to deliver. VIDA provides $150 in medical aid for every dollar donated. A $50 donation provides $7,500 in medical supplies. Saving hundreds of lives.
In concert with GlobalGiving and Fundacion Educativa de Desarrollo Economico y Social (FEDES) locally on the ground, this fund will provide victims of the earthquake with critical medical care for several years. VIDA has a long track record of responding to natural disasters in Chile, Peru and Haiti.
It will take many years to restore the poorest areas along the coast of Chile. VIDA is prepared to continue to ship dozens of containers of medical relief to the Fundacion Educativa de Desarrollo Economico y Social FEDES for distribution for the long-term.
