VIDA Sends Record Number of Shipments to Peru in 2018

VIDA has had a record number of shipments to Peru in 2018. VIDA shipped 28 containers carrying over $32 million in aid. Many of these shipments represent a new partnership being led by Peru’s Ministry of Health who is spearheading an effort to upgrade and increase the number of beds available in Peru's hospital system.  To that end, VIDA has already sent 345 beds in 2018 along with 200 gurneys and 150 exam tables.  Of course, this is in addition to the hundreds of pallets of medical supplies and hospital equipment that VIDA sends every year to Peru.

A major cost in this project is the ocean freight from Oakland to Callao.  Global Giving donors play an important role in making these shipments possible.  The people of Peru and VIDA thank you for your continued generosity. We look forward to building upon our great success in 2019.

Chile Needs Your Help

VIDA is making a last ditch effort to save our project in Chile.  Although VIDA has experienced record shipments in 2018 to our projects throughout South America, sadly we have not been able to send aid due to a lack of funding both here in the U.S. and Chile. Although the devastating earthquake seems like a distant memory, the plight of millions of impoverished Chileans is as bleak as the day the earthquake struck.  In spite of the tremendous economic strides Chile has experienced over the past decades, one of the sad realities is that Chile has one of the highest income disparities in the world.  Millions continue to live in extreme poverty.  Unfortunately, VIDA's decades of medical aid to Chile is drawing to a close as funds to pay for shipments have dried up and the cost to clear containers in Chile is going up.  This double hit is making shipments nearly impossible. The VIDA team is working hard to raise funds to continue with this project and we hope that we can count on the continued support of the Global Giving community in saving this important mission
