From Home
From Home

Little by little we are resuming normality, children are returning to their schools and we have been able to start face-to-face classes. Therefore, we are going to close this program but you can continue supporting us in Youth singers transform lives by teaching others program.

Sing and learn from home was a very valuable program because let us be near families from Sirenaica and their children in an uncertain moment.

During this year we attended 450 students from their homes

Thank you because your support was very important for our children and for Fundación Sirenaica. We hope we can continue bringing music to children in Medellin.

As we told you in the last report, our monitors are practicing what they learned during 2020, attending classes with the teachers.

It has been beautiful how they put what they have learned into practice and how they overcome fears and become stronger in learning. They have done parts of the classes and have evaluations and follow-ups from older teachers.

These monitors continue to attend training twice a month to reinforce knowledge.

On the other hand, some students are EXPANDING their horizons by taking reading and music theory classes that serve as preparation for entering universities to later replicate what they learned among their peers.

We include video with testimony of a student in theory class and one telling us about her experience as a teacher.

WE ARE REALLY VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULT OF THIS PROGRAM. THANK YOU!

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

During 2020 the different methodologies and especially the Sirenaica methodology were worked on to teach singing, body language, rhythm. Also life skills, dealing with students, teachers

On December 2020, 12 of our students received a certification about their first capacitation as future teachers. They were very happy.

This year each student will be with a teacher as a “monitor” in at least one class per week. Some classes will be virtual, some others in their schools. We call this part practice because they will have the opportunity to practice the things they learned and they will be supervised by the Fundación Sirenaica.

We have taken advantage of this strange year to train virtually, It has not been easy, but 12 of our girls have been constant in their training for future teachers. Here is a few testimonies

When they talked to me about the opportunity that I had to participate in monitoring classes for choir, I got very scared, but really as the days went by, I felt more sure of what I could do. This process has been very important for me, as it not only takes me away from my strict academic life, it also gives me at the same time the liberty to learn , to give, invent and be myself. I liked very much this phase of classes as there were always guests who explained many interesting subjects, their different methods, gave us advice, their knowledge, among other things. The most outstanding thing about these classes were the homework’s proposed, such as to invent games for different parts of a choral class with Sirenaica, invent and practice physical, mental and vocal exercises for a choral essay, learn the history of our foundation, among other interesting works,

My work during these classes has been very productive, I have learned many new things, that aside from preparing me to give classes, has also prepared me for situatios in my day to day life and I appreciate that very much.

With this monitoring experience, I owe them many more experiences and they will be compensated.

                                                                                                                 CAMILA

I have learned a lot. The only thing I can say is thank you for this opportunity and all the words shared.

                                                                                                                VALERIA

Our new group of future teachers
Our new group of future teachers

With the purpose of strengthening and consolidating a new group of future teachers who would want to learn Sirenaica’s methods, in June 2020, we began a virtual training course. We invited students who had some experience with their own choirs as well as youngsters that were interested in learning.

The group is comprised by 17 youngsters, of which 5 have some experience in each of their choirs.

The idea is to work for the rest of the year on the entire teaching process of the song, the different teaching methods, singing, the history and the different components of Sireaica, such as: the mission, vision, values, as well as teach the different duties and obligations of each and everyone within the group where the practice is taking place, in order to come out strengthened to be a future teacher.

Laura’s testimony; she is beginning the process:

“I belong to Sirenaica´s Foundation, being part of the choir seedlings and now I am in the monitor’s class and I love it too much, because it is a new experience in my life and because I am learning many things that I like. I am very grateful with Sirenaica’s Foundation and with the teacher Naty, as they have freely given me the opportunity of forming myself as well as learn how to give the children the knowledge that the same foundation has taught me and in this way make knowledge and art become nonperishable in time as it is transmitted from generation to generation.”

The support that each one of you gives us allows these youngsters to continue learning and strengthening their capabilities for life.

“Thank you, and stay safe.”
