Introduction: Since its establishment in January 2018, the Maternity Home has been diligently serving the community, operating around the clock, seven days a week. This report outlines the significant accomplishments and services provided since its establishment
Delivery Services: Commencing with just five deliveries in January 2018, the Maternity Home steadily expanded its operations. The subsequent months witnessed consistent growth, with an average of 60 deliveries per month. With a total of 3838 to date, the year 2023/2024 has recorded a total of 253 babies delivered within the facility's clean and medically conducive environment.
Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA): To address the needs of women experiencing early pregnancy loss or miscarriage, the Maternity Home introduced Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) procedures. This alternative to traditional surgical methods, performed under local anesthesia, was previously sought by community members from external sources. The availability of MVA within the Maternity Home ensured convenient access to qualified midwives and comprehensive medical support. Since inception, 151 MVA procedures have been conducted.
Antenatal Care (ANC): Antenatal care, essential for monitoring fetal growth and ensuring maternal-fetal well-being, saw a significant improvement due to the Maternity Home's presence. Prior to its establishment, women primarily sought medical attention only when necessary or close to their due dates. With the Maternity Home's 24/7 availability, pregnant women were able to receive bi-monthly checkups during the initial two trimesters and weekly checkups as delivery approached. 5324 women have availed the ANC services at the maternity home.
Diagnostic Labs: The Maternity Home's diagnostic labs became instrumental in assessing hormonal levels, detecting underlying health conditions through hemoglobin testing, and screening for prevalent community diseases like hepatitis. These diagnostic insights empowered the Maternity Home team to tailor personalized medical guidelines for each patient, addressing their unique needs. Conducted through a collaboration with the closest lab, 210 patients were provided support for the same till May 2024 and a total of 3073 since inception.
Family Planning Initiatives: In light of Imkaan’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare, family planning education emerged as a crucial component. Given the community's average of nine children per family, the Maternity Home actively engaged in promoting family planning awareness. Patient consultations and community meetings facilitated discussions on effective family planning strategies, with many women opting for longer-term solutions such as contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices (IUDs). 7710 women have received awareness and support since inception.
Ultrasound Services: The Maternity Home stands as a hub for women seeking expert guidance on both antenatal and post-natal matters. Qualified doctors and midwives are readily available to provide comprehensive consultations, ensuring that women receive well-informed advice tailored to their individual needs, and with the availability of ultrasound services, women are able to identify high-risk pregnancies beforehand. Since Jan 2018, 12648 patients have availed the service.
