Since 2002 Mensajeros de la Paz works to protect the rights of hundreds of children in Argentina. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of them were forced to interrupt their education, but that situation did not stop our work: it reinforced our efforts.
In 2021 we brought more educators to our teaching staff to keep contributing to the development of all children. This year they are returning to full in-class schooling. For this reason, last month, we launched “Back to School”, a campaign that aims to reach donations to buy school kits for every kid.
This way, after two years of the pandemic, all children will have the beginning they expected the most and we will continue to work together for the next generation. Today we have the opportunity to be closer and motivate the educational path of those who need the most in the present context.
All this progress would not be possible without your generous and thoughtful support. Thanks to you, we continue to support all children that participate in Colibríes Home.
New Normality, same work: Making network for social integration of children without parental supervision.
Hogar Colibríes Home is a specialised care home for children in complex situations. The Home works from multidisciplinary approaches that respond to biopsychosocial and community circumstances. The main objective of the Home is to facilitate the reunification of the child/children with their family or to carry out the process of adoption with a new family.
The pandemic has made securing the reunification or adoption of children difficult. Nevertheless, successful reunification processes have been achieved during the pandemic. In addition, Hogar Colibries, despite being a transitory home, seeks to ensure that the children's stay there responds to all their physical, psychological and affective needs through a necessary intervention of the subject.
In the last months, as a response to the vaccination, it was imperative for the project the recovery of the presential spaces. These promote the integration and recreation times of the children in the Home by returning to a full calendar of activities that has not lost sight of the care and mitigation of contagion (measures that continue today).
Among the activities carried out over the last four months, various celebrations such as Children's Day and weekly activities promote recreational and educational spaces for children.
The task of family reintegration and adoption proposed by the project, while seeking to ensure the full guarantee of rights during the time spent in the temporary Home, is a very demanding task for the organisation and especially for the direct workers of the project. This tireless work is demonstrated in the successful reunions, adoptions and stays for its population and being part of this process is a great comfort to us. For this reason, we would like to thank the workers of the Hogar for their daily work, the organisations that accompany us and, of course, you who donate every month to achieve social integration and the guarantee of rights for all the children that have been in the Hogar Colibríes.
Nor does the pandemic stop us: Find out what was done at Colibries home

The household assists children who suffered rights violation. For this reason, for more than 15 years we have been carrying out different proposals to promote the integration and development of young people in Argentina. Throughout this challenging term hampered by the virtual context, various activities were developed with youngsters who attend Colibríes; which will be detailed in the following paragraphs.
One of the activities was related to the theme “rights”. In May, a remarkable campaign was made about the Tehuel’s case, a trans boy missing. The children raised their voices demanding answers; they designed posters with the teacher’s help to wake up the community.
Furthermore, on June 2nd an event was held in gratitude to the firefighter’s volunteer foundation which collaborates with Mensajeros. During this day, children embellished the establishment with paintings and balloons, but also a brainstorming space was created to debate the importance of these heroes in our society.
Finally, we received special visits from Laura Alonso, secretary of social inclusion of the nation, intendant from Almirante Brown Mariano Cascallares, the national congressman Federico Fagioli and the secretaries Barbara Miñán, Atilio Gari y Guillermo Antoniani. They walked through the household with our project leader Graciela Gilona and decided to sign an important agreement to support the feeding of more than 20 boys and girls, which covers most of their needs. In addition, this plan supported by nation funds will provide building improvements. These are brilliant news to guarantee the fulfillment of children’s rights.
This agreement added to the unwavering support from each of our donors allows us to keep working on promoting a glittering future for children. We have several goals to accomplish in the next semester that will be addressed in a future report.
From Mensajeros team we want to deeply thank you for your commitment.
