The Chez Papa Geoff orphanage in Affame Benin, has been celebrating Christmas. A party for all the children and helpers was laid on by the Association Peace Love and Solidarity in Porto Novo. This is about an hour and a half away, and for many of the orphans, it was their first visit to the administrative capital of Benin.
As with all big occasions, the children were decked out in matching brightly coloured uniforms. These will be worn with pride for months afterwards.
There was plenty of traditional drumming and CPG is especially lucky, in that one of the younger orphans is a quite superb drummer. The other children mostly defer to him but he always willingly moves over to let others try their hand at the tam tams.
Also in common with parties here, there were copious gifts of food; treats for the children and basics for the day to day “nourriture” at CPG.
It was a relief to see Victoria, who developed appendicitis which required a lengthy stay in hospital, looking so well. She is the daughter of Rosalie, the wonderful house mother at the orphanage.
