Like within many families, the kitchen at Chez Papa Geoff (CPG) in Benin is the heart of the home. We were shocked to hear that the recent government inspection reports suggested the children should not be allowed in the kitchen and it should be fenced off. We hope our partners at CPG will be able to make them understand that the ethos here is to make CPG as much like a family as possible. The kitchen is where the children learn to cook and help with food preparation. They enjoy their meals and this time together with each other and with Rosalie, the house mother.
Thank you supporting this project. We are pleased to report that the 23 children who live at CPG continue to thrive here. Thanks to supporters, the children at CPG enjoy a safe place to call home as well as friendship, fun and laughter. The Christmas party is always the highlight of the year and that was true in 2022 as well. There was music, dancing, food, presents and a good time was had by all!
One of the really special aspects of this project is that the children will be supported all the way through their education and training until they are able to become independent. Children who have grown up at CPG have gone on to college or apprenticeships. Other local children who can’t afford to go to school are also sponsored through the education support programme.
Below is a picture of sponsored students who are now studying at university. When project coordinator, Dick, visited last year they went out for lunch together so he could catch up with them and see how they were getting on. He said they seemed to be under the illusion that the first year was the hardest!
I hope you have enjoyed reading this update and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year.
