Last semester 99 children and their accompanying parents visited one of the 12 courses and workshops for kids and teens. Time is flying by and we celebrated - like every year – the end of the semester with a big party at the nearby Hubert-Marischka-Park. On May 26th the kinderhände families, participants and friends followed our invitation and enjoyed the jumping castle, our delicious buffet, huge soap bubbles, games with Austrian sign language or face painting (pictures 1 + 2).
In cooperation with kinderhände the Marien pharmacy offered a bilingual workshop in Austrian Sign Language and German. During the guided tour Eva and the only deaf pharmacist Sreco explained everything about herbs and remedies. The children also got the possibility to mix their own healing oinment in the laboratory for taking home (picture 3)
What´s coming up next?
- Every Monday in July and September we open our Parents-children-Cafés for signing, chatting, practicing and learning.
- On tour-workshops (dotdotdot Movie Festival, KinderuniWien)
- Preparation for the next semester
We thank our supports for their donations and wish all a warm and peaceful summer!
The kinderhände year 2019 started as usual with new parent-child-meetings (EKC) and the preparation for the new semester. The main focus at the beginning of this year, however, was the participation at the Zero project conference (February 22nd -24th 2019). Barbara Schuster presented kinderhände in an international panel n which was streamed live and interpreted in international sign (picture 1).
We also got the chance to pitch at the Impact Transfer Forum in front of global stakeholders who were very much interested in our project and where new cooperations and synergies were built. Another highlight was the award ceremony where we received an award (picture 2). All presentations and the ceremony are available at the project zero facebook page: www.facebook.com/353631608009839/posts/2356954601010853?sfns=mo
What else? The new semester started in march with 11 courses which are all fully booked! (Picture 3 and 4) Also, the second part of our Lernkoffer (learning kit) is available soon. It will be sold with our brand new kinderhände app!
On behalf of the entire kinderhaende team we thank all our supporters and wish everybody a warm and colorful spring!

With the end of the year 2018 also the kinderhaende semester ended - with a big christmas party for all participants and their families. Together we sang and signed christmas songs, ate cookies, did crafts (christmas tree decoration), signed and played (see pictures 1 and 2). The highlight as every year was the “Bilderbuchkino” where a children’s book was displayed on the wall and read to the kids in German and Austrian sign language. Exciting!
Another tradition at kinderhaende is the performance of the kinderhaende christmas choir. As every year we performed at the christmas market Schloss Schoenbrunn. 50 children from 4 to 14 years sang and signed christmas songs in front of an enthusiastic audience (see picture 3). For the first time, parts of the choir also had a performance at a nearby retirement home. It was a very moving performance for all.
Finally, we were chosen as Zero Project 2019 awardee and are invited to the international Zero Project Conference in Vienna (more information: https://zeroproject.org/2019-awardees).
We wish everybody a happy and healthy 2019! Thank you for your support!
