Support Rural Pre-Schools in Sri Lanka

Support Rural Pre-Schools in Sri Lanka

Dear Donor,

Our challenge continues with the Covid-19 situation.

Tarana Foundation started on this project to support rural pre-schools in 2019. Initially, it was decided to cover all 65 pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya over a period of 2-4 years, as a pilot project.

We supported 26 rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya in January 2020. A pack of educational and communication material worth Rs. 25,000/- was distributed to each pre-school to help simulate motor and language skills.

During January 2021, we covered another 10 pre-schools with the same pack of items, as the feedback for our packs distributed in early 2020, was overwhelming.

As of now, we have covered 35 rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya. We wish to support the balance of 30 pre-schools if possible in early 2022.

From the donations we receive on GlobalGiving, we will support the balance of rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, in January 2022.

We thank all the donors who have contributed towards this project, as you have supported in providing a rounded early childhood education to these rural kids. Your continued support till the project is fully funded will help us to complete our objective of supporting all pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya.

May you and your families be blessed abundantly, and may all your noble aspirations be fulfilled.

Best Regards

Dear Donors,

We hope that you and your family members are safe and well.

The pandemic has hit Sri Lanka very badly these days, and the whole country has travel restrictions and only essential services are functioning.

Our schools including pre-schools were closed in April 2021 due to the situation, and yet to commence afterwards.

With regard to the rural pre-schools, we were able to donate a pack of required pre-school items such as puzzles, play items, building blocks, colouring pencils, coloured sand, pastels, boards, charts on words / letters / colours / vehicles / fruits / vegetables, musical instruments, etc., (worth Rs. 25,000/- each) to 10 rural Pre-Schools in Dehiattakandiya, an area in the Eastern Province in Sri Lanka, in February 2021. With this donation we have covered 35 rural pre-schools out of a total of 65 pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya. We commenced it as a pilot project in January 2020.

We hope to complete donating pre-school packs to the balance pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya in 2022, as the feedback from the pre-school teachers and parents of those pre-schools which received our donation, have been very encouraging. We have recognised the deficiencies that these pre-schools have been facing for such a long period of time, to help develop communications skills and simulate motor & language skills and also cognitive competencies of the pre-school children, due to the inability to obtain the material required to develop such skills.

Please find sent herewith the photographs of a pre-school to which we made the donation, taken when we visited Dehiattakandiya in February 2021.

We thank you profusely for your generosity and helping us to support these rural pre-schools which have been in dire need of these material to help develop their children. As mentioned before, these pre-schools are not supported by the Government, to the extent the Primary and Collegiate Schools are supported in our country, and need to find funding on their own, to meet their basic requirement.

We firmly believe and work with the ethos, that effective early child education for economically disadvantaged children can compensate for the deficiencies they face in their home environment and ultimately help reach better educational standards. By reaching the required educational standards, will eventually help them break the inter-generational cycle of poverty, in the long run. Your support will help reach this objective.

Thank you and much merit to you again. May you and your family be blessed abundantly, and may all your noble aspirations be fulfilled.

Take care and stay safe !

Best regards

Suranjani Wickremeratne

Dear Donor,

It has been a challenging year last year, with the work we do in rural villages due to the Covid-19 situation.

Tarana Foundation, understanding the unavailability of adequate learning material in rural pre-schools required to develop a child, launched a pilot project, to support the rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, a remote area situated in the Eastern Province (Ampara District), in January 2020. Our initiative helps the rural pre-schools to be equipped with the learning material required for pre-school students. We believe that early childhood education is the first stage of a holistic model that creates supportive and constructive learning for children of all ages.

In January 2020, we distributed a pack of educational and communication material to help simulate motor & language skills and also cognitive competencies of pre-school children to 25 rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya. Those pre-schools which received our donation benefited a lot, and the pre-school teachers were able to engage the children in various activities to enhance their skills, which would not have been possible, otherwise. The feedback was overwhelming, and a further request was received this year to continue with it for the balance pre-schools in the area.

From the funds collected from GlobalGiving, we have purchased these educational items for 10 more pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, and currently await the authorities response to visit and distribute them. Although the opening of pre-schools have not been scheduled as yet, we are anticipating that the pre-schools will re-open this month, after a long closure.

We thank all the donors who have contributed towards this project, and no sooner these items are distributed to the pre-schools, we will provide you a detail update with photographs of the distribution done. We will continue with providing these items from the funds collected for this project to other rural pre-schools in the island.

May you and your families be blessed abudantly, and may all your noble aspirations be fulfilled.

Kind Regards

Suranjani Wickremeratne

Dear Donors,
This week, GlobalGiving is matching 50% of any donation upto USD 50 per donor, this week. The campaign started today and will end on the 18th of September.
We are seeking your kind assistance for a new project to support Rural Pre-Schools in Sri Lanka. We launched a pilot project last year to support pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya (Ampara District, Eastern Province). We provided a pack of educational, communication and play material worth Rs. 25,000/- each (USD 135 approx.) to 25 pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya. We received a request from Dehiattakandiya to support 65 pre-schools in the area, but we were able to provide the pre-school pack to only 25 pre-schools, last year. The feedback was overwhelming and the pre-school teachers and the kids appreciated this donation very much. The teachers said that the kids wanted to stay back in school after school hours, to work with the items they received.
We realised that we need to support more pre-schools to overcome the lack of such resources, which are required towards cognitive development of a child. So, we decided that we will provide pre-school items to the balance 40 pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, end of this year. In order to do this, we seek your kind support.
We request you for a donation between USD 10 - USD 50 and help us reach our target of USD 5,000 or / and help spread the word to your friends and relatives who may want to help us on our endeavor. We make 50% more for every donation we receive upto USD 50.
Your support no doubt will help those economically disadvantaged children to compensate for the deficiencies they face in their home environment, and ultimately help break the inter-generational cycle of poverty in the long term.
Thank you
