In Sri Lanka, many schools located in rural districts are unable to provide adequate facilities and resources for their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related programs. There is an absence of exposure to the limitless possibilities that these fields have to offer. It hinders the nation's ability to progress on par with the rest of the world, as many other countries recognize the greater need of STEM education. This project aims to bridge the educational divide in schools.
Several rural schools across the country are left without access to modern STEM resources or learning opportunities for students to develop 21st century skills. There are various factors that hinder their access to quality education, including lack of financial support and proper infrastructure. Under-served regions in the nation lack funds and vital supplies in comparison with their better funded counterparts in urban districts.
This project will provide students of all ages with the opportunity to explore the field of STEM through interactive learning experiences, by utilizing the lab. It will encourage innovation and creativity, which will equip them with the necessary skills to pursue STEM related fields.
By addressing the educational gap in terms of STEM education, our project will help empower a future generation of leaders and innovators in several key industries. Access to quality STEM education will create heightened curiosity and eagerness among a younger generation. Not only will this equip under-served Sri Lankan students with the opportunity to explore the boundless potential of STEM, but it will foster hope and drive positive change for a whole rural community.
