Dear Donor,
It has been a challenging year last year, with the work we do in rural villages due to the Covid-19 situation.
Tarana Foundation, understanding the unavailability of adequate learning material in rural pre-schools required to develop a child, launched a pilot project, to support the rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, a remote area situated in the Eastern Province (Ampara District), in January 2020. Our initiative helps the rural pre-schools to be equipped with the learning material required for pre-school students. We believe that early childhood education is the first stage of a holistic model that creates supportive and constructive learning for children of all ages.
In January 2020, we distributed a pack of educational and communication material to help simulate motor & language skills and also cognitive competencies of pre-school children to 25 rural pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya. Those pre-schools which received our donation benefited a lot, and the pre-school teachers were able to engage the children in various activities to enhance their skills, which would not have been possible, otherwise. The feedback was overwhelming, and a further request was received this year to continue with it for the balance pre-schools in the area.
From the funds collected from GlobalGiving, we have purchased these educational items for 10 more pre-schools in Dehiattakandiya, and currently await the authorities response to visit and distribute them. Although the opening of pre-schools have not been scheduled as yet, we are anticipating that the pre-schools will re-open this month, after a long closure.
We thank all the donors who have contributed towards this project, and no sooner these items are distributed to the pre-schools, we will provide you a detail update with photographs of the distribution done. We will continue with providing these items from the funds collected for this project to other rural pre-schools in the island.
May you and your families be blessed abudantly, and may all your noble aspirations be fulfilled.
Kind Regards
Suranjani Wickremeratne
