Scaling Awareness on Sexual Reproductive Health Among Teenage Mothers

Introduction
PLANE Uganda is dedicated to advancing awareness and education on sexual reproductive health among adolescents, youth, and women of reproductive age. Our ongoing efforts aim to empower these groups with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, ultimately leading to healthier communities.

Project Overview
In our recent initiatives, we focused on increasing awareness of the critical importance of accessing reproductive health services promptly. We convened two meeting with young mothers, where we provided education on essential reproductive health topics, including family planning, child nutrition, immunization, and HIV prevention.

Key Activities and Findings

1. Education and Awareness: Through our discussions, we highlighted the importance of reproductive health services in preventing unwanted pregnancies and promoting child spacing. We guided participants on where to access these services, ensuring they have the necessary support to make informed choices.
2. Impact of Unintended Pregnancies: Our findings revealed alarming statistics: 48.5% of unintended pregnancies occurred among rural women, while 35.9% were among urban women. This underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to address the high levels of unplanned births in Uganda.
3. HIV Prevention: During our sessions, we emphasized the importance of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) as a critical method for preventing HIV infection. Many young women reported engaging in unprotected sex, often resulting in abandonment by partners after pregnancy. This highlights the need for continued education and support for these vulnerable groups.

Future Directions
PLANE Uganda is committed to ongoing mobilization and sensitization efforts to ensure that adolescents and young mothers can lead healthy lives. We will continue to provide education on reproductive health and advocate for access to necessary services.
