Strengthening Campaign to Spread Post Rape Services

PLATFORM for the NEEEDY (PLANE) in this quota has Increase awareness about the critical importance of quickly accessing post-rape care.

We’ve moved to schools and talked to the students about the sexual reproductive health issues including sexual harassment, rape, defilement that can lead to acquiring HIV, unwanted pregnancies.

PLANE has conducted two (2) radio programs to sensitize the public about this problem and where to access the services.

We called on the community leaders to ensure comprehensive services are available in all communities including the Health Centers III and Local Council One chairpersons and the sub county offices .

Certain interventions of spreading the message of post rape services are needed within 72 hours of a rape and defilement to prevent possible serious health consequences. Once adolescents access these services, cases of unwanted pregnancies, abortions and high HIV infections reduce.

We also trained the media and audio tours to spread the message and guide the people where to

PLANE would like to appreciate our supporters especially those that donated to this campaign. We appeal for more partnerships and collaboration in ensuring the services are offered and reach the people in rural communities. This campaign has not received the targeted support and donations and we are calling upon for more support to help us intensify it.

For instance, a whopping 48.5% of those who had unintended pregnancies were rural based women while 35.9% were in urban areas. Unintended pregnancy is common in Uganda, leading to high levels of unplanned births.
