Dear Esteemed Patrons,

Greetings to you from Health Education Adoption Rehabilitation Development Society (HEARDS) - India!

Thank you so much for your continuous support towards the Mid-day Meal program for children of our child labor rehabilitation center.  Education and child labor are interrelated, and the elimination of child labor is central to the cause of universal education. As well as being the key to the overall development of any individual, education is the key to economic growth and sustainability for any country. HEARDS is known for its innovation, bravery, and multi-faceted approaches to the child labor problem. The movement addresses both the root causes and the horrific symptoms of child labor.

For nearly all of these children, their school meal is the only meal of the day.  The children at the rehabilitation school were given good nutritious food like rice with dhal, vegetables, pulses and leafy vegetables in all the working days. Eggs were provided once in a week to the children to make them healthier. Children need nutritious meals in order to concentrate on their lessons at school - and to grow strong and healthy.

We feel happy to present the progress report of the child labor rehabilitation center. With the support received from an esteemed donor like you, many poor children get a good education and moral support.  The Staff and the Teachers put their effort and commitment into the growth of the child labor rehabilitation center. This project really helps the children to get good education and to learn good habits. And also it reduces Child labor, Child delinquency and improves the knowledge, skill, and potentiality and become useful citizens of the nation.

Requesting you all to support us continuously to bring the child laborers in order to regain their lost childhood.

With best wishes and fond regards,

Dear Supporters of HEARDS,

Firstly, let us pray and wish you all a Very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year 2022 on behalf of HEARDS - India!

We thank you from the core of our hearts for your valuable support!

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations’ State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, forecasts that the coronavirus could push over 132 million more people into chronic hunger by the end of 2020. This figure will be over and above the existing 690 million undernourished people, the study says. This setback further weakens the possibility to achieve Sustainable Development Goal Two, which aims for zero hunger by 2030, the report concludes.

The Midday meal program has played a significant role in increasing enrolment and improving attendance of children in our rehabilitation school, but it has far deeper implications – as it is one of the crucial ways to ensure the nutritional security of children. However, the scheme has faced massive challenges, when the COVID-19 lockdown was announced and our rehabilitation school was shut down.  However, fortunately after mid of August 2021, fortunately, the Government has announced to reopen the rehabilitation school.  All our children came back to the rehabilitation school but most of them are mal nutritious.

But we are very much happy and proud to inform you that we are providing a nutritious mid-day meal for kids which is certainly a boon for our kids because they already lost their three square meals a day.  With your valuable support, we were able to extend this help, with your help the children are healthy, and they can able to concentrate on their education.

Your donations helped a lot during this pandemic period.  I request you to please kindly share this with your friends and relatives as this is one of the inevitable projects of HEARDS.

Thanking you,

With best wishes and fond regards,

Mr. Kuriyakose Sajan

Dear Esteemed Patrons,

Greetings to you from Health Education Adoption Rehabilitation Development Society (HEARDS) - India!

I hope and wish you were fine and safe there.  Children are going through hard phases in their life because of continuous school shutdown due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Most of the children are not having 3 square meal a day. Due to this, most of the children are severely affected with malnutrition. The corona virus pandemic is driving up food insecurity among children. The nutritional status and resistance to infection have a strong relation and is important to address in children. Malnutrition tends to aggravate the risk to infections and vice-versa by decreasing appetite. India grapples with malnutrition despite program commitments like Integrated Child Development Services and Mid-Day Meal Scheme.

Their educational standard has come to a standstill. There are no online classes for these children. Most of these children parents are illiterates. Therefore, there is a inevitable need to educate after-school downtrodden children. However, this program can be carried forward only through the support of valuable donors like you. So please keep supporting us in order to bring the children back their educational standards.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, being able to spread out and have more support towards supporting towards mid-day meal for children has become essential. These donations will assist us with maintaining those expenses and making sure that the HEARDS children especially girls can learn, eat, and be active as safely as possible.”

Respected Esteemed Donors,

Greetings to you from Health Education Adoption Rehabilitation Development Society (HEARDS) - India!

I hope that this report finds you in good health.  It is hard to believe that the pandemic is over a year old now. While India had made progress towards flattening the curve earlier this year, it now appears that the new variant is wreaking havoc. At the time of me writing this report, there were over 260,000 confirmed new Covid cases there in the past 24-hours. Needless to say, the situation in India is dire.

We are very thrilled to share exciting news with you. Thanks to your generous support, we have been able to complete the painting and refurbishment of the classrooms for HEARDS Rehabilitation School. The classrooms were fully changed with an ambiance to accept students. We would like to take this opportunity to offer our heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone at GlobalGiving for your unprecedented generosity during such a difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic. We do understand how it is difficult for each of us these days and how humanity has been severely suffering from this challenge. You did a heroic deed by sharing our challenges and offering your hand of help. Even though during the pandemic HEARDS continued in educating our children in our rehabilitation school shows the intense and holistic work undertaken these past months, to ensure children are not left behind due to the effects of the coronavirus. HEARDS staff team shares the activities conducted during this reporting period:

On April 20,2021 the Andhra Pradesh Government decided to shut down all the schools in the State due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. The decision to shut down schools and coaching institutes comes after announcing a lockdown from April 20 onwards to stem the unprecedented surge in the cases of Covid-19. This was an unfortunate incident that happened in the lives of our children because the children have started to improve their educational standards tremendously during this period but unfortunately; COVID-19 has taken our classes away from us.  The painstaking effort taken by our teachers was overwhelming.  These children belong to families who are living below the poverty line, whose parents are not able to meet even their most basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. Unfortunately, our rehabilitation school is disturbed with Covid-19 Virus lockdown from 20th of April 2021 due to COVID-19 second wave. All the families are again struck in the construction industry without work and live in their huts with starvation.

HEARDS provides noon meals to all children regularly on all working days. Cook has been appointed to prepare the noon meal in the rehabilitation center itself. According to the schedule, the noon meal has been prepared and served for all children. This activity encourages the parents and motivates the students to attend the school.

The overall attitude of the children, as well as the community at large, has undergone a sea change since the project began. The community – the elders, in particular, had never imagined until a few months back that their children would attend a school and that their children would even read or write, thereby opening up opportunities for further education and progress in their area. In the center, the Muslim community women, who would not step out of their homes 10 years ago, now accompany their children to the center to meet the concerned teachers and clear any doubts, discuss problems, etc. Once again, on behalf of our Team, the School Administration, the beneficiary children, we would like to extend our wholehearted gratitude to everyone and each of you at GlobalGiving for your time, for your generosity, for being with us in this uneasy time, and for bestowing a very precious present upon our children - ACCESS to EDUCATION.

Thanking you,

With best wishes and fond regards,

Dear Esteemed Patrons,

Greetings to you from HEARDS - India!

HEARDS is leading the way to improved education for Chittoor's urban and rural downtrodden children. HEARDS child labor rehabilitation center intervention is helping a lot for these neglected child laborers and school dropouts to regain their lost childhood and education and parents could think towards role and responsibility of children education. Both community and parents have a turning point to change the attitude towards the development of children by providing good education and childhood opportunities for children to become a good energetic citizen of the country. On behalf of our organization and children, we would like to thank you very much for all the hands who are working behind for the welfare of these needy neglected children.

The COVID-19 pandemic has already had profound impacts on education by closing schools at all levels almost everywhere; now, the damage will become even more severe as the health emergency translates into a deep global recession. This note describes the shocks hitting education systems and outlines how countries can respond to them.

Without aggressive policy action, the shocks to schooling and the economy will deepen the learning crisis. Many children who are forced out of school have lost their most important meal. And with the poorest households hit hard by the ensuing economic crisis, the opportunity gaps between rich and poor has grown even larger. Beyond these short-run impacts on schooling and learning, countries will ultimately suffer significant long-term losses in education and human capital.

It was happy that now all the schools have been reopened and we are running our rehabilitation centre regularly. We are providing a nutritious mid-day meal for kids which is certainly a boon for our kids because they already lost their three square meals a day. With your valuable support we were able to extend this help and with your help the children are healthy and they can able to concentrate on their education.

Your donations helped a lot during this pandemic period. I request you to please kindly share this with your friends and relatives as this is one of the inevitable projects of HEARDS.

Thanking you,

With fond regards,
