Waste segregation bins were supported in Shree Siddheshwor Secondary School located in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-4, Dolakha district (around 150 km north of Kathmandu in central Nepal). Altogether 6 big fabric dustbins for school premise, 22 PVC dustbins for classrooms (separate dustbins for degradable and non-degradable waste for each class), 11 brooms and 11 dust pans were provided. The objective of providing these materials was to make the students aware about the importance of WASH and sanitation materials, which would help to improve WASH behavior in students. During the hand over program, the teachers and students were oriented on how to manage the waste.
Supriya, a tenth grade student, shared “A large volume of waste used to be generated in our school. The problem of waste segregation, waste burning, and littering practices was very common. But the situation is changing now after what we learned from ECCA. We are now focusing on reducing the volume of waste produced and on providing the much-needed awareness in waste management among students and teachers. We have the responsibility to help in maintaining the appearance of the school by keeping the area clean, for which we now always use indoor and outdoor dustbins for waste collection. This has also helped to keep the school environment clean and beautiful, which has made the school coming very charming for the students. We are very thankful for the support”.
We thank you for your continued support.
