Thanks to your contribution, our program to support children with cancer achieved great things in 2016!
In 2016, more than 250 children and their parents were benefited for our accompaniment program. We achieved this, through 203 activities like support groups, art-therapy workshops and psychosocial support.
We had 7 support groups for parents, with the goal to provide learning opportunities in: Beliefs and myths surrounding the treatment of childhood cancer; Care before, during and after chemotherapy; The game as an anxiety management strategy in children with cancer and the life of children after cancer, among other topics. Al these groups were dictated for different professionals.
For the children we had 183 sessions of art-therapy in their own rooms or at the chemotherapy room. 76 children were benefited from these activities.
Equally, we bring emotional support for 90 parents, and 62 families we benefited with 249 economic aids: we delivered 145 transport aid and 104 market aid.
With our work we could identify barriers to access to the health system: Delay in appointment with specialists and delay in delivery of medications, among others. Faced with these barriers, the Foundation carried out actions with the aim of giving patients a prompt response to achieving greater opportunity in the time of care.
Finally, in 2016 we realized two big activities with children and their family, whit an attendance of more than 420 people and the participation of almost 100 volunteers. We had the “life celebration” in October and the “Christmas party” in December. These events looked forward to emphasize the familiar union as a principal value in the treatment against cancer.
We return this year with the hope and conviction to continue creating opportunities to live.
