SUKRUPA : Creating Opportunities (November 2015)

Global giving Report: (Sept- Nov 2015):

SUKRUPA had an exciting quarter with events that involved cultural, literary, environment-centric and creative activities. The children were given not only in-house activities to exhibit their talent and build their self-esteem but also were given a few out-door events that helped build and shape their personalities.

Over the years, SUKRUPA has learnt that though academics forms an essential part of uplifting an individual, it only provides for half of what a person needs in order to develop into an individual enriched by his/her complete potential. Cultural, creative and other such activities help an individual explore, learn and build new dimensions to oneself and their existence.

This year, SUKRUPA has taken extra efforts to reach out to the underprivileged children through various programs that provide not only for their academic development but also for their over-all development.

Highlights:

- Our Children won 6 prizes at the Prathiba Karanji block level cultural and literary competition.

- The High School Children attended a Leadership Camp (Turning Point)

- Inaugurated SUYOG (SUKRUPA Young Organic Gardeners Project)

Activity Report:

SUKRUPA started this quarter by celebrating the gift of teachers on Teacher's Day. The children organised a special program, where they spoke, performed and cut a cake, baked by the children themselves. The children expressed their love and gratitude for their teachers by giving them personalised cards. The day ended with a lot of fun and laughter.

Mid September Smile Foundation conducted an activity with our class 6 students on the topic 'Symmetry'. The children with the help of volunteers constructed 3-D models of various shapes and sizes. The children enjoyed as well as learnt one of the most important lessons in their text books.

Later that month, our children participated in Prathiba Karanji (an inter-school block level cultural and literary competition). Our children won six prizes all related to music, story telling and art. The children were delighted to have one so many prizes.

October, like the month before started with celebration. We celebrated the birthday of the Father of our Nation – Mahatma Gandhi (One of the greatest teachers' of Indian Society). The children remembered his teachings by making collages, talking about his relentless struggle for the people and singing patriotic songs. The day ended with reflections.

On 10th October, we inaugurated SUYOG (SUKRUPA Young Organic Gardeners Program). We had Mrs. Meera, Mrs. Krupalatha (Founder|Executive Director) and the children inaugurate the event. The children planted Fenugreek seeds, Cherry Tomatoes, Long Green Chillies, Lady Fingers, French Golden Beans and Brinjals Apple Green.

Over a period of time SUKRUPA has inculcated in its children, love and sensitivity to mother nature mostly through growing of vegetative plants. The initiation of SUYOG has just added light in the same direction helping our children to understand the benefits of plants and most importantly continue to love every aspect of nature.

October ended with a bang. We had a session of our Leadership Camp (Turning Point) with our first batch of students from the 26th Oct to 31st Oct. This camp was a week long program for class 7 and 8 students. It focused on building self esteem and leadership skills. The children were given time to reflect, share and act upon. The children watched a movie every evening that was surely recreational but also emphasized on the core objectives of the program. The camp was filled with fun activities such as crafts, games, rappelling and dance. The children shared responsibilities as well as were given space to show their leadership skills throughout the activities. Most of the children were able to confront their fears and device mechanisms to build on their strengths. The children enjoyed the camp very much. They insisted on staying there for a month the next time and not wanting to get back to their normal routine. The second batch si curretly underway (16th Nov to 21st Nov).

State Street volunteered for the SUYOG project on 4th November to help our Young Gardeners plant more vegetables. They planted Tomato (country), Brinjal, Chillies, Chickpea, Cow-pea, Lady Finger, Coriander, Fenugreek, Mint, Radish and a type of Spinach. The three hour long session of planting was fun. Children interacted with volunteers and made friends quite fast.

Keeping with the friendly and over-excited nature of our children, Children's Day was no less than any other event we have at SUKRUPA. Children played and teachers performed to the children's favourite songs. All the children enjoyed every bit of the performances. They also had competitions such as: pick and speak, elocution, singing, dancing; in which all of them participated.

We thank all our sponsors for helping us help these children help themselves. Without your valuable                                                   contribution none of this would be possible.

Please continue to support our cause of empowering young minds.
