When someone escapes trafficking, sexual violence, domestic abuse, or another dangerous situation, their first needs are often the simplest—and the most urgent.
A survivor may leave with only the clothes they are wearing. A parent may arrive with hungry children and no way to buy groceries. Someone discharged from the hospital after a forensic exam may have nowhere to go and no toiletries, no transportation, and no phone minutes to call a loved one or advocate.
These are the moments when your generosity makes an immediate difference.
While grant funding helps sustain our advocacy, crisis response, and support services, it rarely pays for the everyday essentials survivors need to begin rebuilding their lives. That's where the Standing in the Gap project becomes so important.
Because of your support, our advocates are able to respond to each survivor's unique situation with practical, compassionate assistance. Funds from this project help provide items such as:
These items may seem small, but they often become the bridge between crisis and stability. A grocery card means a parent can feed their children without choosing between food and gas. A gas card means a survivor can attend counseling or make it safely to court. A hygiene kit offers comfort and dignity after experiencing unimaginable trauma.
Every day, we see how these practical resources remove barriers to healing. They allow survivors to focus on their safety and recovery instead of worrying about where their next meal will come from, how they will purchase basic necessities, or how they will get to their next appointment.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Lake County Prosecutor's Office for their generous donation of non-perishable food items. Their kindness has helped stock our pantry and ensures we have nutritious food readily available for survivors and their families during times of crisis. Partnerships like these strengthen our community's response to trauma and remind survivors that they are supported by people who genuinely care about their well-being.
As the needs in our community continue to grow, so does our reliance on flexible funding that allows us to respond immediately. Your support through Standing in the Gap fills critical gaps that traditional grants simply cannot cover, ensuring that survivors receive not only advocacy and support, but also the tangible resources they need to begin healing.
From all of us at Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center—and from the survivors whose lives you have touched—thank you. Because of your generosity, we are able to meet survivors where they are, stand beside them during their darkest moments, and remind them that they are not alone. Every donation, every gift card, every hygiene item, and every meal shared sends a powerful message: someone cares, and hope is never out of reach.
