The SA national lockdown coming to an end

It has been really tough for our club kids to stay at home during the long lockdown. CJ from one of the I2B clubs drew this cool skatepark. Finally outdoor exercise is allowed again.

The blessing of family

My dad has been helping us at the skatepark for the last couple of months. He is now part of I2B and he is looking to start a mentorship and skills development project (with wood work and restoring old cars) at the skatepark. This project will be aimed at boys who dropped out of high school. Please let us know if you would like to get involved in this project.

My dad revamped the bowl and it looks amazing!

Youth Day online event

Goosebuster (13 year old Gustav) asked me to do an online interview and skate show on Youth Day. Well done for pulling this off Gustav!

Below is a screen-grab from the recording:

New stickers

We redid the back window of the I2B van and added a sticker on the bumper. We are also looking to redo all the stickers on the sides as the sun has damaged it pretty badly by this time. If you would like to help us with this, please let us know.

Hermanus progress

It is great to see how the skatepark project in Hermanus is coming together. I did the design and the building part is a community project.

New rugby balls

We are very grateful for the donation of new rugby balls. We started with some individual athletics training and the balls come in handy to play with while doing our training session on the rugby field.

The i2b skatepark expansion
Below is a drawing of the dream we had since the beginning of 2016 to make the skatepark more family friendly.

We finally raised enough support in 2019 to start the project. At the beginning of December we started with moving the fence and leveling the ground.

We used old quarter pipe frames, flipped it upside down, placed it on poles and tied some shading nets to it. We also bought some recycled plastic wood benches. The next steps would be to lay down concrete and build a non-permanent shop front/entrance.

Thank you to everyone who supported us to get this far. We are at a point where we need more support to finish the project. Please let us know if you would like to get involved.

I2B clubs feedback
The first i2b/CS Somerset West club meeting under the new shading.

We are proud of coach Wayden from i2b Kleinvlei for getting the youngsters from his community on skates.

Thanks to coach Moose, all the volunteers and Son Surf Strand surf school for keeping these youngster from the i2b Strand surf club so stoked.

We are proud of all our other coaches and appreciate you a lot!

Cape Winelands Junior Sportsman of the Year
We are extremely proud of I2B athlete, Paul, for being nominated as the Cape Winelands Junior Sportsman of the Year. He represented South AFrica at the Junior World Championships in Nottwil.

I2B represented at World Champs

After winning a gold medal for long jump and a silver medal for 100m at the Junior World Championships, Chane represented South Africa at the Senior World Championships. At only 17 years old, this is a great achievement! He reached the finals with a massive personal best and placed 5th. We are so proud of him for showing so much character throughout the Games!

Partnering with Caylix Sport
We partnered with Caylix Sport and did an athletics clinic for primary school learners. We also shared our stories with them.

DF Malan Sport Science Prize Giving
Coach Fanie was the guest speaker at this year's DF Malan Sport Science Prize Giving Event.

Partnering with Free to Serve

I2B partnered with Free to Serve to do sports activities. Fanie also shared his story at their annual camp.

I2B at 2019 Nottwil Junior World Para Athletics Championships!

Three I2B athletes recently competed at the 2019 Nottwil Junior World Para Athletics Championships! Chane, Paul and Marle (partly coached by I2B coach, Fanie) made up I2B's team and also represented Team SA. I2B project manager also joined the team as their coach.

Chane competed in the T13 division (athlete with visual impairment) and Paul competed in the T62 division (double amputee).

Paul had personal best times in both the 100m and 200m. We are extremely proud of him!

Chane received gold in the long jump as well as a silver medal in the 100m!

We could not be more proud of our athletes who gave it their all! South Africa placed 5th out of 31 countries with a total of 33 medals.

Thank you to everyone who supported us in helping our athletes attend this life changing event. Their lives were forever impacted and this is the beginning of even greater things to come!

I2B at 2019 Nottwil Junior World Para Athletics Championships!

Inspired2Become is proud to announce that two of our athletes, Paul Daniels and Chane Hendricks, were selected to present South Africa at the Junior World Para Athletics Championships! It will take place in Nottwil, Switzerland from 28 July until 5 August 2019.

Chane Hendricks will be competing in the T13 division (athlete with visual impairment) and Paul Daniels will be competing in the T62 division (double amputee).  I have been selected to join the event as a team coach.

Unfortunately the National Federation is unable to send the team due to a lack of funding and the responsibility is on the individual to raise the funds needed for World Champs. Please consider joining us in this cause.

We are extremely thankful for each and everyone who have supported us so far!
