Young people bowled over by cricket in Pakistan
By Helen Vost | Managing Director
Cricket is at the heart of the physical education and sport programme in Karachi developed by Youth Sport Trust International on behalf of the Rangoonwala Foundation. A pilot which reached over 200 schools has led to the establishment of a new organisation, Jawaan Champions, to expand the reach and benefit thousands more young people.
Youth Sport Trust International expert consultants continue to support the programme by:
- Training practitioners in country and monitoring their progress
- Devising a new curriculum with lesson plans for teachers to follow and
- Establishing a simple monitoring and evaluation framework.
Fundamental to the Jawaan Champions new curriculum is a commitment to:
- Fully inclusive lessons where every child is actively involved
- Progressive activities that support skill development and confidence
- Developmentally appropriate, small-sided games suited to limited space
- Clear pathways from physical literacy to sport and competition
- Reinforcement of active and healthy lifestyle behaviours
This curriculum is designed not only to teach physical skills, but to empower teachers and enable young people to develop positive relationships with movement that extend beyond the classroom.
We are hugely grateful for your ongoing support which helps to fund our work.
THANK YOU

Master training in Karachi
Two Youth Sport Trust International expert trainers were back in Pakistan in August to support the future development of Jawaan Champions. This new organisation was established following a pilot programme by Youth Sport Trust International to improve physical education for children in Karachi and to provide opportunities for them to take part in positive sporting competition.
Great progress is being made:
- A cohort of Master Trainers has been upskilled to be able to undertake training themselves to more teachers
- A PE curriculum has been completed and aligned to the Sindh Province National Curriculum
- Lesson plans have been designed and produced in both English and Urdu as well as a toolkit to support teachers
- An effective monitoring system has been introduced which is user-friendly, effective and scalable.
With 235 schools and thousands of children already benefitting from the programme, efforts going forward will focus on a wider rollout to more schools and thousands more children.
THANK YOU for your ongoing support.

Sport taking place in Karachi school
Youth Sport Trust International's expert trainer was back in Karachi in March this year to support the development of a five year plan to transform further the teaching of physical education in schools and expand competition opportunities for children in cricket, rounders and athletics, as well as introducing additional sports.
With over 235 schools reached already through an initial pilot and thousands of children now enjoying the benefits of high-quality physical education, a new organisation based in Karachi - Jawaan Champions - has been created to deliver much wider rollout. An intense planning phase has been underway to align lesson plans with the curriculum in the Sindh province where Karachi is situated. These will cover invasion games, striking games and athletics for the under 9s, under 12s and under14s age groups. Work is also taking place to shape and redevelop the competition strategy in order to maximise the number of children who can benefit from the experience of competition and a pathway to sports clubs.
'Thank you for leading us and all your work in Karachi you have helped us moved forward and we now have a clear strategic plan for the curriculum.' (Feedback from Implementation Director in country to Youth Sport Trust International expert trainer)
A follow up visit to monitor progress and mentor support the Jawaan Champion Master Trainers by Youth Sport Trust International is planned for August 2025.
Thank you for your support.
