Sport changing young people's lives in Pakistan

Cricket is at the heart of the physical education and sport programme in Karachi developed by Youth Sport Trust International on behalf of the Rangoonwala Foundation.  A pilot which reached over 200 schools has led to the establishment of a new organisation, Jawaan Champions, to expand the reach and benefit thousands more young people.

Youth Sport Trust International expert consultants continue to support the programme by:

• Training  practitioners in country and monitoring their progress

• Devising a new curriculum with lesson plans for teachers to follow and

• Establishing a simple monitoring and evaluation framework.

Fundamental to the Jawaan Champions new curriculum is a commitment to:

• Fully inclusive lessons where every child is actively involved
• Progressive activities that support skill development and confidence
• Developmentally appropriate, small-sided games suited to limited space
• Clear pathways from physical literacy to sport and competition
• Reinforcement of active and healthy lifestyle behaviours

This curriculum is designed not only to teach physical skills, but to empower teachers and enable young people to develop positive relationships with movement that extend beyond the classroom.
