One of the most anticipated activities of the year is "Peraj Day", where a meeting space is generated between pairs (children and mentors) with the opportunity to carry out a variety of activities that fill them with joy and fun. In addition, it is an opportunity for inter-institutional coexistence, since the various Institutions from the Metropolitan areas of Mexico City and also from other regions of the country get together or at least share their activities at a distance..
This year, in Mexico City, the meeting of the metropolitan area was held in "Las Islas" of the UNAM, with the participation of more than 300 pairs, from the FES-Acatlán UNAM, FES-Aragón UNAM, FES -Zaragoza UNAM, UAM Xochimilco, UNITEC, ITAM, IBERO and Anahuac.
Simultaneously, various activities were carried out at the headquarters of the Institutions of other states of the Mexican Republic.
Some of them were; The Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, where the children's relatives also actively participated. On the other hand, the Bicentennial Polytechnic University, located in Silao Guanajuato, visited the "Explora Science Center", where they were able to address topics such as:
- Energy and sustainability
-Innovation
-Multiple intelligences
Thanks to these activities, the Peraj community is strengthened and we invite you to continue making these stories possible through your contributions.
#Todos somos Peraj
One of the most important activities of the year for Peraj is the Peraj National Meeting, an event that aims to share experiences and learning with our entire community. Liasons, coordinators and mentors from all over the Mexico meet in this space that gives us feedback to do our work with ever increasing quality.
This year 2022, we are very satisfied to have held this meeting face to face, being one of the first activities to be carried out in this way after the virtuality derived from COVID 19.
The event took place from October 26 to 28, at the Faculty of Higher Studies Acatlán-UNAM (National University of Mexico)
Twenty Higher Education Institutions participated, in addition to the Quinta Carmelita Foundation and the National System for the Protection of Children and Adolescents.
The theme for this edition was "The new normality in the Peraj model: learning and innovation". Three thematic axes were covered:
• Development and systematization of the program applied to specific contexts during and post pandemic.
• Experiences and resilience in the face of the diversity of contexts in which the program is applied.
• Innovation in instruments and techniques for hybrid and face-to-face work.
We thank each and every one who participated in this national meeting. The shared experiences were of great value. These meetings are a key and an essential part of our program.
We invite you to continue making your contributions that help us to continue with this educational project.
Thank you!
One of our objectives is to generate synergy with socially responsible companies through experiences in actions that help reduce the social gap and at the same time develop skills in collaborators and in the beneficiaries of our program.
At the end of last year we began to promote these activities with companies such as Moody's and Nielsen.
During this year, we managed to increase our corporate volunteering activities by offering spaces for reflection, where experiences and knowledge about the labor field with a social perspective were shared, which has provided sensitivity on this topic to university students about to graduate.
Companies such as Nielsen and Moodýs participated for the second consecutive year.
Other companies have joined the volunteer activities, like the insurance corporation Grupo ProteG, with whom we carried out sports activities with children, mentors and company collaborators.
These activities have been very rewarding for the beneficiaries of our program, since they have provided them with other types of experiences and benefits.
We invite you to continue supporting Peraj and to invite more people to do the same. This will allow us to extend the benefits of the program to more mentees and mentors in Mexico.
As part of Peraj's renovated “360° intervention model”, our aim is not only to support and develop academic and socio-emotional skills in our direct beneficiaries, the children mentees, but also in the university mentors, school teachers and parents.
We are happy to report that we have started a Parents Workshops Project, which arose as a thesis proposal from a mentor studying Pedagogy at the Technological Institute of Sonora (ITSON).
A pilot workshop included 30 parents and was very well received by them. They were very participatory and feeling fortunate in having the possibility to obtain the necessary tools to improve their accompaniment and communication skills with their children in a very efficient and exciting new way . This is something that undoubtedly needs to be reinforced now, when we are all trying to adapt to the post pandemic reality.
In Peraj we believe that the active participation of parents and/or guardians of our mentees in the activities of their children is essential for their academic and socio-emotional development. For that reason we will be incrementing the workshops for more parents to have the opportunity participate.
We would like to invite all our GlobalGiving friends to continue supporting our activities in favor of the education and well-being of children in Mexico. We thank you for your donations and invite you to spread the word among your friends and families about the work that Peraj together with you, our supporters, make possible.
According to official data more than five million students did not enroll in the 2020-2021 school year. Three million of them are in elementary and middle school, the rest in high school and college. The crisis affects both basic and higher education.
School dropout increased during the pandemic, especially in the lower socio-economic strata. The lack of resources such as internet and mobile devices, of proper accompaniment that can help to adapt to new learning processes and the lack of motivation in the post-pandemic context are the main causes.
The Peraj program becomes more relevant given the new challenges facing education in Mexico. At the start of the 2021-22 school year we face a gradual return to the classrooms. Our mentors will be interacting with their mentees in a mixed way, both face-to-face and remotely according to their schools authorities and national and local health guidelines.
Peraj's intervention will aim to support the return of our mentees to the classrooms and their possibilities to attend on-line classes. In parallel many of the activities will be focused on the development of cognitive and emotional skills such as communication, resilience, tolerance, creativity and problem solving,
We invite you to follow and support Peraj.
