Exciting News: Higher Education Institutions Join

We are thrilled to share with you that in the 2023-2024 academic year, we have successfully welcomed new Higher Education Institutions into our mentoring program, Peraj, Inspiring Futures. This signifies the opportunity to provide support from university students as mentors to a greater number of girls and boys in underserved environments. The Higher Education Institutions joining Peraj are Escuela Normal de Chihuahua, el Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Pánuco y la Universidad Tecnológica de Mineral Reforma.

Despite the many achievements in the 18 years of Peraj Program operation, we acknowledge that there are ongoing challenges. The expansion of our program requires additional resources to ensure that both the students and the Higher Education Institutions operating the program receive the necessary support. We cannot emphasize enough that it is donors and partners like GlobalGiving that enable us to guarantee the long-term quality and sustainability of Peraj.

The inclusion of new Higher Education Institutions reinforces our commitment to making Peraj a source of motivation for children to continue their education, preventing school dropout. It also provides satisfaction and a foundation for young university students, their mentors, to continue contributing their knowledge and effort to society. We look forward to working in collaboration with our new educational allies to inspire a better future.

Parent Involvement in Peraj

The participation of parents in the Peraj mentoring process can potentiate the impact on the lives of boys and girls. Parental involvement in the program can further strengthen the bonds between the family, the mentor and the child, creating a strong support network.

When parents are actively involved in Peraj mentoring, they can collaborate with the mentor to set clear goals and objectives for the child, as well as provide valuable insight into their needs and strengths. Parents can work with the mentor to offer additional guidance and support at home, reinforcing the positive impact of mentoring.

In general, the presence and participation of parents in the education of children is essential for their comprehensive development. Their support and commitment strengthen academic performance, emotional and social well-being.

Therefore, in Peraj we carry out activities that encourage their participation, in this way the mentoring will have a greater impact and the girl or boy will have a solid support network.

Part of the activities carried out during this 2022-2023 school year:

• Parenting skills workshop

• Cybersecurity workshop for parents

In general, the program seemed like a good idea, since my daughter Isabella had the opportunity to interact with people outside her family and school circle, as well as receive guidance from her mentor, who shared her experiences on a personal and professional level, which inspires her to develop professionally for the future, likewise on a personal level she made a friend with whom she can share her school and home experiences, receive support and guidance from her, and in turn carry out various activities that have helped her a lot in her personal and academic development.

Regarding the face-to-face activities that took place and that I had the opportunity to attend, there was an event which took place at the UNAM university facilities. The activities were lots of fun and very well organized, the gathering was very pleasant, in general an excellent experience.”
