Educate an Orphan in Rural Western Kenya

We were optimistic! The year 2020 looked brighter until last month when our government announced the first corona positive case. Things changed and everything became dark. As per now we have 216 cases and 9 death.

It is hard for everyone and we are praying that this may end soon. We are staying at home and we are trying our best to keep the children safe. Our children are remaining in doors and we are keeping them busy, it has hard when they are not in school. We have not had any case in our neighborhood, but we can’t go out without a mask, we can’t attend any funeral nor any gathering. All the open markets are closed and we must go to town to buy groceries. The food prices have gone up, all the businessmen have taken advantage of the pandemic and it’s not looking good.

People on the rural areas live day by day, most of them can’t have food on their tables if they have not worked on a farm which earns them a $1.5 a day for their food. It has not been raining and therefor no working on the farms. We look at the situation and feel most of the people might die from hunger and not covid-19. Our children from the community might be going through the same, we shared the food we had for the children from the orphanage hoping that this pandemic will end soon but it looks as if it’s just starting. We also gave out soaps because there is washing of hands and many can’t afford soaps. Old people come to our gate every morning asking for food which we cannot provide for right now. As you pray for the world pray for us and the children living in the community.

We have been hit hard but all in all we thank you for your continue support. With your support we can reach out to those outside our circle and change a life. This pandemic has brought us together than before. We will be grateful for those who are willing to give towards this need to enable us reach out to more families in the village. Thank you

Back to school and holiday updates!

Our first building for the primary school

Tumaini students are back in class for their 2020 first semester! They all look good and they had a restful holiday. Most of them had fun with their guardians during Christmas and they are sharing their stories with others. They were looking forward to come back to school because after Christmas celebrations life came back to normal. Students enjoy the good environment You have given them and above all the breakfast and lunch you provide for them.

At Tumaini Transitional home we had a great time with the children who have no one to go to during the holidays. We enjoyed good meals and music, this happened because of your efforts to share your love with the needy. A new dress and shoes means a lot when it comes to Christmas and that is what you did for these innocent children. We can’t stop appreciating your efforts to reach out to the orphaned and abandoned. You are doing a wonderful job in the lives of these children.

Back to school is here with us and we are enrolling new students in the lower classes. The need is high but we are trying our best to enroll few students because many of current students have no sponsors. We are hoping for a change this year, that more people will come out and sponsor a child to enable us provide quality education that can change the lives of these children and the community in general. We are also requesting you to share with friends and families the good things you are doing in the lives of the needy. You bring someone on board so that we can reach more lives.

We are celebrating 15 years of service to the needy this year and we will send many successful stories for you to see where you have come from and the difference you have made. It is unbelievable! Once again thank you for your generosity, commitment and efforts in making sure that these children are receiving the best education and their basic needs are met. We wish you a happy prosperous new year!

New Classrooms and updates on this project

Our graduation was successful

This year has been one of great change. The official starting of the new curriculum (Competency Based Curriculum) across the country, the official exams for the 3^rd grade pupils and the activities included in the exams were new to the pupils. We cleaned the markets with the children, visited farms, engaged in different types of sports and everything was new.

The change has come along with so many new things as academics is concerned and this has brought in the construction of new classrooms. We had no more space to build the classrooms and we decided to build a story building on the existing classes. We have tried our based and the construction is going on slowly and slowly as we receive the funds. There was need for the classes because our early childhood classes used by the children below 5 years are mud walled and in a bad condition. The other classrooms were good but they were not enough. The new curriculum has more activities which need more classes and it is in this regard that we needed additional classes.

We need your support to be able to complete the construction. We have tried our best and we have attached pictures for you to see where we are as you prepare to support. Consider constructing a classroom which will bear your name and or fundraise for us. These classrooms will give the children a good learning environment and be able to participate in all academic activities within the new curriculum. We would not wish our children to remain behind due to lack of classrooms.

This year we had 25 candidates in 8^th grade and they have already done their final primary national exams. We are looking forward to receiving results next month before Christmas. We believe in our children and we know they will all pass their exams. This will give them an opportunity to join high school in January next year.

Finally we are very much grateful for what you are doing not only in the lives of the orphans and the poor but in the entire community of rural western Kenya. You have brought Light in the darkest part of this region, the interior where people didn’t understand the difference between a TV and a computer monitor. You have opened their eyes and they know they have people who care for the needy. You have left a mark that will never be erased in any way, a mark that will always remain in their lives. Your names will always be mentioned in each and every speech of each individual child. This will go for years and years to come. We are proud of you and thank you so much for making a difference and giving hope to the hopeless.
