Happy World Spay Month!
Romania Animal Rescue has welcomed 2015 by participating in World Spay Day (February 24) and the entire month of February was spent by providing education, animal care, and spay/neuter in Craiova, Bucharest, Vatra Dornei and Moreni. We were also honored this month by a visit from Kelly, the representative from Global Giving, who came to view and participate in a spayathon in Craiova this month! Thanks for traveling all the way to Craiova, Romania Kelly!
Romania Animal Rescue is the only charity that provides a free spay/neuter program for the cats of Iasi. (Iasi city funds free spay/neuter for the dogs, but not the cats). Our Northern Romanian veterinarian, Dr. Liviora, provides excellent surgeries to prevent the births of unwanted kittens and stop the abandonment onto dangerous streets and into forests, but we need your help in order to continue this program. In the many other cities that RAR provides spay/neuter with the Dream Team, we are constantly asked for help for cats so that guardians will not have to resort to abandonment or killing of the newborn kittens. We hope that you will help us with a $25 donation to support our cat spay/neuter programs.
2014 was a fabulous year for the animals who benefitted from our campaigns. Over 9000 animals (cats and dogs) were spayed/neutered, over 1000 were treated by the Homeless Animals Hospital clinic free of charge. And 2015 is full of new and wonderful events! 1500 new education books are being sent out to communities, thus bringing our booklet education to over 16,000 circulating in Romanian communities.
Our total number of spays/neuters for Romania is quickly approaching the milestone of 33,000 animals. The Homeless Animals Hospital is going full speed, as our funding allows. RAR is still sponsoring the intense training of more veterinarians, as they qualify, for the Veterinary Training Camp so that more vets can learn highly skilled surgical techniques as well as keyhole procedures for spay/neuter.
One of the incredible outcomes of our Homeless Animals Hospital free veterinary care program is the connection that is being made with the animals. In a number of cases, injured animals have been brought in to our clinic for care by citizens who saw an animal suffering and in need of care on the street. These Good Samaritans brought the animal(s) they encountered to the clinic for free care.....and low and behold many of these good people ended up adopting the animal(s) themselves! This is another form of education that we promote, the bonding of animals and humans and having compassion for those who cannot help themselves. We are extremely proud to be able to provide this type of service to the communities, as our funding allows.
I would like to invite you to view our video from the October spayathon. 1000 cats and dogs were spayed and neutered during this 2 week event by the RAR Dream Team of vets and techs in Craiova. Volunteers from Romania, the USA, Norway, Germany, and Denmark came to help. RAR continues to work as our funding allows to provide free spay/neuter, often on a daily basis. Future campaigns include help for Cluj, Bistrita, Barlad, Bacau, Bucharest Villages, Craiova, Moreni, Tecuci, Adjud, Sighet, Mangalia, Iasi, Miroslava Village, Timisoara, Vatra Dornei, Plopeni, and the list will increase as the weather improves.
I would like to thank you for your support. It is only through donations that RAR can continue to help the cats of Romania. Your donation of $25 will allow us to spay/neuter a cat in Romania and prevent suffering! Thank you and I wish you a wonderful 2015!
