Tipsy and Miss. Blackie
By SUDHERSENA ALALASUNDARAM | Project Leader
In this report, we would like to feature two recent arrivals to the cat shelter, Tipsy and Miss. Blackie. Tipsy, whose favourite pastime is napping, is a rescued kitten along with her siblings. She was spayed last month and is now happily running around in the shelter along with the other cats.
Miss. Blackie and two of her silblings were living outside in the car park of a police station. They were brought in by a kind policeman since the car park was not safe for the kittens. Initially, Miss. Blackie fell ill but soon recovered and is now a happy resident. Miss. Blackie has been vaccinated and will be spayed soon. She has grown to be a great beauty!
Tipsy and Miss. Blackie are two of the countless cats and kittens that are rescued and rehabilitated in the Blue Cross Shelter. We have numerous animals that are treated for injuries or illnesses, sterilized and released. All this is possible because of your kind donations without which none of these animals could be helped.
In this report, we are also sharing some pictures of the cats in the shelter as a picture is worth a thousand words! So please sit back and enjoy the cat show. This is possible because of your kindness for which we are grateful.

Sweety
During the months of August, September and October 2017, 150 cats have been sterilized and vaccinated. The sterilization program is one of the flagship programs of Blue Cross of India and is gaining in popularity. We would like to share the stories of three cats that have been rescued, sterilized and vaccinated at the shelter.
The first is Sweety who is a part of a litter of street cats who live outside a building and luckily are fed and cared for by some kindly persons. Sweety is now about 6 months old and has been sterilized. She is now recovering from her surgery. She is doing well and will soon rejoin her siblings.
The next cat is Toto, a white female cat, who was abandoned at the shelter and who is not vaccinated and sterilized. The third cat is Zoro who was also abandoned at the shelter and is also sterilized and vaccinated.
These are a few cases of cats that have been rescued and rehabilitated. Every day in Blue Cross of India we rescue numerous cats that need help. All this is possible because of your donations for which we are very grateful.

Spotty
In this report, we share stories of Spotty, Precious and Veera. These cats recently came to our shelter. Spotty and Precious were rescued homeless kittens. The kittens were weak and malnourished. With proper care, the kittens gained strength and have been vaccinated and sterilized. We are hopeful that Spotty and Precious will soon find forever homes. Your donation helps such homeless kittens who otherwise would have no chance for survival. Veera was a weak cat who was abandoned at the shelter. He was malnourished and needed special care. Now he is neutered and vaccinated and happily enjoys running around and sunbathing.
Every week, numerous cats are brought in for spay and neuter, as the awareness about the benefits of birth control for animals has grown. All street cats that come for treatment and surgery are vaccinated and sterilized free of cost. Fifty cats on an average are treated and sterilized every month. This helps control the feline population and the birth of unwanted kittens.
Blue Cross of India has recently constructed a brand new operation theater and post-operative care facilities. This has made our Spay and Neuter Program safe.
Our featured caretaker is Gita, who takes care of the shelter cats. She says " taking care of these homeless cats gives me great happiness and even when I am at home I cannot help but think of these animals". Thanks to her gentle care, our cats are brimming with joy and happiness.
