The French Red Cross “Parents-babies Areas” celebrate their 10th anniversary

The French Red Cross created the “Parents-babies Areas” 10 years ago, in order to help vulnerable families with young children from birth to 3 years of age. These areas are managed by volunteers and aim at meeting the specific difficulties encountered by vulnerable families (precariousness, social isolation, migratory experience, etc.) and at bringing material assistance for babies when necessary. Since 2006, 21 “Parents-babies Areas” have been created by the French Red Cross and have allowed helping 7000 persons in vulnerable situation.

Preparedness Plan for New Threats

November 2015 attacks opened a completely new chapter in first aid for the French Red Cross, because the organization had to response to several attacks at the same time, and because these attacks were lead with war weapons. Therefore the French Red Cross had to anticipate and to be prepared for potential other similar attacks. The Department of Emergency and First Aid developed a Preparedness Plan for New Threats, in order to meet the dual requirement of being able to response to potential other attacks in France, and of protecting the first-aider volunteers. The aim is to cover not only Paris but also 14 other major cities in France.

International Volunteer Day

The year 2016 has been marked by an increase in volunteers’ recruitment for the French Red Cross: more than 10 000 new volunteers joined the organization in one year. The French Red Cross highlighted this wave of solidarity during the International Volunteer Day and wants to go on promoting volunteering as a “school for citizenship”. Volunteering reinforces solidarity, but is also a way for each person of realizing his potential as an individual, taking responsibilities and acquiring skills. This is why the FRC supports all its volunteers and makes available for them more than 80 trainings.

The French Red Cross publishes an operational guide on fight against Ebola virus

In 2014 the French Red Cross strongly engaged to fight Ebola virus when the epidemic stroke Western Africa. The organization released in December 2016 an operational guide on fight against Ebola virus, which is the result of reflections and experiences of the FRC teams committed on the field and leading the project in the headquarters in Paris. The purpose of this guide is to be used for further reflection and to be a practical tool to help humanitarian workers who will deal with a new outbreak of Ebola or any other life threatening epidemic.

Promulgation of the law in favor of restoring family links

Restoring family links is one of the statutory missions of the French Red Cross, established by the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The aim is to reunite families who have been wrenched apart by conflicts, disasters and humanitarian crisis. The new law will facilitate administrative procedures and allow the FRC to access vital information and documents in order to look for persons on the national territory.

The French Red Cross, founded in 1864, is an independent charity working alongside governments and public authorities. As a key player in society, we provide humanitarian, health, social, welfare and training services. To help carry out our assignments we have a strong team of 18,000 employees and 56,000 volunteers, who on a daily basis, pursue consistent and unwavering charitable principles to provide local support and deliver tangible results and long-term solutions.
