Eye-catching stars for Paris Red Cross beneficiaries

Wednesday, December 11, the Île-de-France Red Cross invited 2,500 people to celebrate the Operation "Stars in the Eyes" under the marquee of the Cirque Phénix in Paris. Performed by the Les Étoiles de Mongolie troupe, the show called "Nomade" warmed hearts and sparkled everyone's eyes.

An exceptional representation to which more than 60 volunteers and employees naturally responded. "I have been working on the preparation of the event for two months and today it is the joy of reading the wonder on the faces of the children. On a daily basis, I accompany some of them who live in a hotel room with their family… I am happy to see them outside to live this magical experience ", says Christine, volunteer.

This unique experience also revives the memory of some. "For me the circus is associated with my childhood, it reminds me of many good memories. And then being here with all the people accompanied by the Red Cross and feeling this joy around me, it changes my ideas, I think escape from my daily life ", attests Nicolas, hosted at the Melun University Hospital.

WASH Project - Chad

The French Red Cross has been present in Chad for almost 40 years, in close collaboration with the Red Cross of Chad. In 2018, a Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) program was set up, directly linked to the consequences of climate change, in the Hadjer Lamis region. It has materialized with and for communities. The objective was to contribute to the strengthening of local capacities, to improve the preparation and the resilience of the population.

Project based on a health-oriented approach, it has benefited more than 15,000 people. Community mobilization, diagnosis, construction of water access works, latrines, hygiene promotion ... In this region, the transport and storage of water are not subject to any rule of hygiene, and the rate of defecation in the open air is 99%. The needs are immense. The public’s support for the project testified to their desire to improve practices on a lasting basis, to learn to be stronger in the face of droughts and epidemics.

Fighting social isolation: a Red Cross priority

Loneliness is a scourge that increasingly affects our modern societies. This social isolation would affect nearly 6 million people in France *, or 12% of the population. On the ground, the volunteer and salaried teams of the French Red Cross support the most vulnerable on a daily basis, to recreate social ties and promote the solidarity and living together that are at the heart of each of our actions.

This risk affects all audiences: young people, single-parent families, children, the elderly or the sick ... no longer have the resources to cope with life-threatening accidents, the impact of which is multiplied.

For the French Red Cross, the restoration of social ties is an essential component in the fight against precariousness, it constitutes the foundation of a dignified and independent life.

This is why our teams are committed every day in the field to place the social bond at the heart of their systems and activities, echoing our founding principle of humanity.

To carry out this mission, our association focuses its action around four main challenges:

- destitute childhood;

- The isolation of the elderly;

- The fight against precariousness and exclusion;

- Strengthening the intergenerational link.

World Volunteer Day: join us!

Give meaning to your daily life, acquire and develop your skills, belong to a team, exercise responsibility and even act for the planet ... Being a volunteer allows you to enrich yourself humanely and get involved in concrete actions with those who need it the most.

Joining our 60,000 volunteers is to become an essential player in the life of the city and it is to discover that there are a thousand and one ways to engage in local humanitarian action.

Volunteering is a way to realize yourself as an individual, to take responsibility and to acquire skills. That is why we offer our volunteers more than 80 training courses.

Joining the French Red Cross also means benefiting from support throughout their journey in order to progress within the association but also to enhance their experience outside the association.
