Making dental care accessible to vulnerable and vulnerable people

Cleanliness and hygiene contribute to the well-being of the person and to self-esteem. We value the notion of the right to hygiene, which implies that no one, regardless of sex, age or place where he lives, suffers from inadequate hygiene conditions. Oral health is one of them, especially when we consider that more than 10 million French people do not currently have access to dental care. That is why the French Red Cross commits, supports and supports dental projects in its network: devices for access to dental care for vulnerable and precarious people in Annecy and Nîmes, dental truck in the department of Ain etc. These schemes make it possible to offer free dental care to people in precarious situations, who are far from healthcare facilities, who have mobility or administrative difficulties.

Alzheimer: spaces created by the French Red Cross to welcome sick people and relieve their caregivers

Alzheimer's disease affects nearly 900,000 people in France today and continues to grow, accentuated by the phenomenon of aging of the population. A tragedy for families who see their daily life totally upset: the person affected, who gradually loses his autonomy, requires indeed a constant accompaniment. Issues concerning caregivers have become a topic of reflection in their own right.

To provide them with real support, the French Red Cross has been developing innovative hospitality services since 2011: non-medical reception centers offer activities adapted to the sick (games, artistic creation workshops, reading, gardening, music or cooking ...) and allow the caregivers to take time for themselves, freed a few hours from the worry and coercion in their daily life to help a sick person.

Hurricane Dorian in Bahamas: French Red Cross launches appeal for donations

Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 hurricane, landed on Sunday, Sept. 1, on the Abaco Islands, north of the Bahamas, before continuing its course the next day to Grand Bahama Island. It is now continuing its route to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, downgraded to Category 3 hurricane. In coordination with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the French Red Cross has decided to launch a call for donations.

With strong winds reaching 295 km / h and torrential rains that accompany them, Hurricane Dorian caused considerable material and human damage. The balance sheet states 50 dead and 1300 missing. The material damage is considerable and more than 2000 people are still housed in emergency shelters.

Since the passage of Dorian, the Bahamas Red Cross is in the front line to take action to the people affected in the islands: emergency shelter, psychological support, health care, distribution of drinking water and restoration of family ties . She also participates in evaluation missions.

Children's Hospital Margency (Ile-de-France) Red Cross inaugurates its Parents' House in September 2019

With 106 beds hosting approximately 220 children aged from a few weeks to 17 years old, the project of the Margency Children's Hospital resides in the care of very young patients coming from the pediatric departments of the Hospitals and Centers for the Fight Against Cancer in Île-de-France, for the continuation of a treatment before returning to the family.

Located in the heart of a wooded area, the establishment offers children, in one place, both the opportunity to heal, go to school and have fun. As soon as the child arrives at the hospital, the medical and nursing team defines an individualized project in perfect collaboration with the educational and pedagogical team, whose objective is to continue the treatment of the young patient while preserving his child's life before returning to the family.

One of the missions of the Margency Children's Hospital is to be able to offer, to one of the parents at least, an accommodation allowing him to stay with his hospitalized child and thus put all the chances on his side with a view to the healing.

75 years after their separation, two sisters meet again

Their mother being seriously ill, Simone and Sylviane are placed in an orphanage. The two girls are quickly separated: Simone is placed in foster care while her little sister of just 2 years stays at the orphanage for a few more years before being adopted. Life goes on, Simone founds a family and often talks about her little sister to her daughter Annie, who contacts the French Red Cross to start researching her aunt. After several months of investigation, the family recovery team of the French Red Cross announces to Annie that Simone's little sister has been found.

Every year thousands of families find themselves separated in the world. Everyday humanitarian crises, armed conflicts, natural or technological disasters, etc. thousands of families, very suddenly and often violently. The French Red Cross Family Links Recovery Service is working to restore and maintain ties between family members and shed light on the fate of missing persons.

Heat wave in France: the French Red Cross mobilized

An unprecedented heat wave hit France at the end of June, the heat wave alert was triggered for Paris and its neighboring departments. The French Red Cross, with all its volunteers and its employees is mobilized throughout the country, with vulnerable people but also all the people it receives and accompanies in its health facilities, social and medico-social.

For homeless people, the volunteer teams of the association continue and strengthen their marauding days (pedestrian or vehicle) by providing water distribution and hygiene kits. For the elderly, volunteers make home visits to isolated people identified by the town halls. They also strengthen emergency department teams in hospitals (excluding medical and nursing care).

"The summer that saves" 2019: objective of the French Red Cross: to initiate a maximum of people to the gestures that save this summer!

In 9 out of 10 emergency situations, the life of a loved one is at stake! In France, it is necessary that one person per household is trained to the actions that save. For the second consecutive year, the "Saving Summer" of the French Red Cross will take place throughout the summer period. Objective: to introduce as many people as possible to the actions that save until September 14, date of the World First Aid Day.

The volunteers of the French Red Cross are mobilizing everywhere in France to inform and initiate free of charge to young and old the first aid, the use of the defibrillator, the behaviors that save in case of exceptional situation and raise awareness about the reduction of risks. Every citizen is invited to meet the volunteers to learn about the actions that save, discover the activities of the association and perhaps even discover a soul of first aid and join the ranks of the French Red Cross as than volunteer.

Ebola: WHO declares "global health emergency"

The Ebola epidemic that has hit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since August 2018 has claimed nearly 1,700 lives. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the "public health emergency of international concern". Faced with this exceptional measure, the French Red Cross and the International Red Cross Movement are mobilizing. Together, they carry out infection prevention and control activities in health centers in the affected area. To do this, they train health professionals and reinforce measures to protect populations. In response to the urgency of the situation, response efforts must be strengthened.
